Going to be fun...

Thanks for the add folks. Brief introduction, Been on 2 wheels for nearly 3 decades mostly dirt. Decided yesterday to pick up my first street oriented ride, '03 K3 Dl1000 28k mi. Coming off a drz400s it made good sense and felt familiar. Good price at local dealer and wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner was a member here. I'll be honest, I know the bike needs a good tear down and inspect. Most noticeable issue presents itself in the form of loud rattling when accelerating at any rpm. I'm excited none the less to become intimately familiar with my new machine and look forward to sharing any knowledge gained through the coming processes.

One of the regular issues with the early Vee's was the movement of the rotor magnets. Look at this thread for something you should check. https://www.stromtrooper.com/dl1000-...-pictures.html

Thanks for the forum links and kind welcome guys. Managed to put 1k on it so far both paved and gravel with a bit of 2trac mixed in. Love this machine! Behaves predictably in all conditions so far, and can take a mild beating without complaint. Little insight I can pass along from newly gained experience; attempting to modify the stock exhaust for a deeper tone quite likely ends with the bike sounding like a '60's era sewing machine. Also if going to ride off-road, invest in some bark busters. Or at least carry some spare levers. Will be ordering a modified clutch basket from Werks parts soon and some additional protection as I can't seem to stay away from the rough stuff.

Nice ride! I've been toying with getting an exhaust for mine, I'd like it to sound more like my SV650. Probably not worth it though.

I've ordered the 18" stainless exhaust from Delkevic, can't stand how the bike sounds with the modified stockers. I'll have them installed before next weekend, also need to Fab up some exhaust shields to protect my soft bags.
