So tell me what you would consider to be the advantages of the V Strom over the FJR?
I have not ridden an FJ since the FJ1100, but I would think the seat height and the smoothness. The lower bike also makes it feel less top heavy.
In favour of the V-Strom on gravel roads would be its narrower profile tyres and its 19" front wheel.

Looking for a good reasonably priced 2 up long distance platform so BigB suggested I join up and have a look around.
So tell me what to look for and stay away from, and let me know if you have a nice machine for sale.
Max, WTF are you doing over here sniffing around with the ADV soft crowd. Get a 14+ DL1000 with some removable Givi luggage and top case with back rest and lets go. You have seen the V-Strom off road in action and it's not a bad sport tour mount. Lots of add-on available. Your wife will love it. Get one soon and ride down to the event. See Big-B for lodging.

 I’m looking at all options and have seen how capable the DL is. Don’t think I’ll ever ride it like you do though. Big question is power and comfort. I like lots of power, which happens to be why my wife doesn’t like riding the FZ. Is the gearing good enough that I will be entertained by only 100 hp? Is it comfortable enough to eat major miles 2 up?
I rode an early DL1000 and really wasn’t impressed. I’m sure I’ll get blasted for this, but it just seemed very vanilla. After seeing Bmac in action, the newer machine is definitely in the running.

the seed has been planted

Max and his wife spent a day on my VS and both seem to enjoy the TQ of the motor and the large amount of room on the flight deck. We shall see.

Great day. Got a nice ride in on bmacs nicely sorted DL1000, ate some kick ass bbq and got the grass mowed!
Love the power of the FZ1, but need the comfort of a ST or adventure sport or whatever it’s called.
FZ seemed very cramped after riding that comfortable, well mannered torque machine all day. Dirt road ability is a big plus.
Huge thanks to B for the generosity. Definitely enjoyed riding that machine and meeting the Mrs. Mac.
Wife loved it and was very unhappy by the time we got home since the fz just doesn’t like to go less than ludicrous speed. Knee brakes were in full effect across 180.

Well I done went and did it. Sold the FZ Monday after one last fantastic blast down the twisty 2 lane and, if it all checks out, I’m picking up a 15 DL1000 today with 1200 miles. Let the fun and farkling begin.

Great Choice, Max
I had had 2 dl650s and I am in my 2nd DL1000, 2014. My choice is the 1000, all day long.
The DL1000 2014+ is awesome, great brakes, some arm-stretching power that is very effortless on the highways. The handling of crosswinds on the highway is amazingly stable. In addition, the stock suspension offers a smooth running ride.
Enjoy your new ride.
