Sounds like you got a screamin' deal on an awesome bike. The photo looks great. Hang around the forum and in a few months you'll learn a TON about your bike, riding in general, adventure touring etc ...
I just bought my bike in May. I'm heavily biased toward motorcycle safety stuff, because if I die in a bike crash, my wife will NEVER let me ride again. "Proficient Motorcycling" by Hough is a great book that will take some time to digest. The MSF Basic Rider course is a useful start. You may only pick up a skill or two, but you may pick up some life saving concepts, like presentation and cagers have "right of weight" even if they are wrong.
Safety gear is spendy, but it is cheaper than my max out of pocket deductible in my medical plan.
Like you, I've put about 1k miles a month on my 650 and love riding. (4500 miles now.)
I look forward to seeing your posts. Welcome to the tribe.
