Tenn/NC Ride Ideas requested.....

May be riding up to Tennessee/North Carolina/North GA when I get back from Africa in a few weeks. I would like to camp on the ride as well.

I have spent a bunch of riding up in that area so have done the Hellbender, Deals Gap, Snake, etc, etc.....

What do people here suggest are just some "must do" roads and stuff (dual sport or paved) up around the Smokies and stuff. Will probably be coming in via the Cherohala Skyway and up from Ducktown or something.....

Any suggestions and suggestions of great camping places would be appreciated. How is the extension road out of Cade's Cove that goes back to 129? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

There's about a dozen concrete-reinforced water crossings. I did it with my DL650, right behind a Honda Nighthawk 700.

If you're not afraid of gravel, get a Delorme NC Topographical Gazetteer and explore. Look for wiggly red lines and close together green lines and you'll have fun.

Head up to Craggy Gardens on the parkway and take the gravel road out of the parking lot. You will end up in Burnsville.

Start near Waynesville and go to Cattalooche. Then continue on into TN

Take the Trail of Tears out of Robbinsville South to Andrews

As far as Parsons Branch goes, a bunch of us did it in MiniiCoopers last April and no parts fell off.

Thanks guys! WOW, RShrimp, I mapquested that road from Wahnesville to over near Cataloochie and then over to Catons Groove - and all I can say is WOW!!!!! Never seen so many switchbacks and twisties show up on a map. Mapquest shows that it is unpaved. Does anyone know the condition of the road?

Packed dirt, large gravel or whatever? WOW! Is the road good to ride on? I will be on the Wee, so is this unpaved road in decent condition?

I gotta do this one - sure looks like an awesome 44 miles.

Might I suggest that you camp one night at Black Mtn. Campground (Pisgah National Forest) at the base of Mt. Mitchell. It is one of my favorite campgrounds just off of NC 80 (Traveling east from Parkway is super twisty) and the Blue Ridge Parkway. You really can't find a bad road in the area gravel or paved.
