Any advice on Ft Lauderdale to Austin Tx routes

Hi all.

My buddy and I are planning a 10 day trip end of Jan/early feb that will take us from Fort Lauderdale to Austin Texas. We are flexible on route as I am sure weather will dictate how far north we can trek.
We will have camping gear so would like to hit a few campgrounds along the way.
Can anyone suggest some must see sights, interesting routes, great regional (non-chain)food and tent oriented campgounds ie. state parks along the way??

Thanks,
Stephen

Barbers Moto Museum is a must if passing thru this area.

Cheaha State park is about 20 miles east (off I-20) of barbers......Oak Mtn State Park is about 20 miles south/west (off I-65).

Thanks Mark444,
Barbers is on the list. Hoping the weather allows us to get up that far. Would like to maybe head to Memphis and work our way down the Missisippi to NO then west along the coast to Galveston then Austin.

Nathez Trace.......

From Nashville down to Tupelo, is suppose to be a nice (altho SLOW) ride. I've never ridden it, but here it's cool......just watch out for the strict popo.

There is a battleship on display in Mobile that's pretty cool, you can see it from I-10. I think it's the Missouri, but I'm not sure.

Of course a stop in New Orleans is always fun. There's some good rides around there. Rider magazine had an article on riding N.O. a couple of months ago.

Go hakafugu yourself.

Thanks all for the tips. Unfortunately we had to work around the storm that came across the country and had to hold up in NOLA as there was too much ice in the Houston area to make it to Austin.
Great trip though..... A snowstorm in the northeast forced me to fly to Florida a day early. Rode direct Ft. Lauderdale to Destin FL (650 miles) camped two nights at Henderson State Park (Highly recommended). Due to cold/timing had to skip the Barber Museum so rode direct to Clarksdale, MS (480 miles) stayed at the Shack-up Inn and ate dinner at Morgan Freeman's Madidi. Made the rounds at the Blues clubs and crawled into a nice warm bed after the places shut down. Next day rode down to Vicksburg (150 miles) in a deluge of cold rain but actually toured the park, a 16 mile loop road, as we were already soaked through . Stayed at the Hampton Inn. We were a scary sight with water cascading off us through the lobby, ordered Dominoes and did laundry all night to dry our stuff. Every news station was running continuous covereage of the impending mega storm so we decided to make a beeline for NOLA the next morning (225 miles) arrived early afternoon to 70 degrees and sunshine. Stayed at the Hotel Provincial (again, highly recommended unless you are the partier type and want to be directly next to the clubs and bars) for what turned out to be five nights. The weather set in the next day for 4 days with cold, rain, and sleet. Gave us the opportunitiy to see alot of NOLAS museums (they have a great National WWII Museum) , historic neighborhoods and great resturants. Crowds were down so it was great for me. Saw an opportunity on Saturday to ride to Austin but they were still showing ice on the roads (I-10) and a 520 mile ride to fly home the next morning did'nt seem fun so we stayed put in NOLA and did what people in NOLA do (laissez bon temps rouller) . We changed the flights and I flew home from there to 15 foot high snow banks at home. Learned some great lessons about touring and camping and saw enough to definitely want to go back to the Gulf Coast area and see more.
Thanks again,
Stephen
