Georgia trip advice

I'm heading up from Florida to Asheville, NC. I would like to avoid Atlanta if possible. Does anyone know of some good back roads I could use if I jump off I-75 somewhere along the way?

If you want to bypass Atlanta, stay on 75 until just North of Macon, then set your waypoint to Monticello, any route will do. Next is North to Watkinsville then wind your way to Wahalla. In Wahalla pick up Hwy 28 (also known as Moonshine 28, fun road) North to Highlands (great town), from Highlands take 64 East then turn left on 107 North, then turn right and take 281 (very nice sweepers). At the end of 281 turn left onto Charlie Creek rd (challenging and technical), at the end take a left onto 215 which will lead you to the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Take the Blue Ridge all the way to Asheville and exit at Hwy 25 North into downtown Asheville.

As an alternative, you can get off 75 much earlier making your North to Augusta, and pick up Hwy 28 in Augusta.

Hope this helps.

If you are coming up the east-coast side, consider picking up Ga. 15 just north of Folkston (near the Okee) and follow that as far as you want, potentially all the way to N. Carolina. Most of it is a pretty good 2-lane with little traffic. If from I-75, consider taking US441 from Lake City Fl. If you do that, I'd suggest taking US319 from Dublin to Wrightsville, and picking up Ga. 15 from there. Either way, 15 will send you through Watkinsville, where you can follow the suggestion from Travman.

Thanks very much for the info guys. I'm actually rethinking the trip, since it was 100 in Atlanta today and it doesn't look like much relief is on the horizon. Also a lot of heavy PM thunderstorms. A friend in Maggie Valley told me it was high 80s there today. I'm not even sure it will be cool enough above 4,000 feet where I usually ride in NC.

I'll see how things look tomorrow and Thursday, which is my planned departure date.
