Greeneville, TN Trip Advice

I'm planning on attending the AMA flat track race near Greeneville, TN next weekend.

(The only chance you'll have to see V-Stroms and Harleys duking it out on the track in the Smokeys).

I know I saw a member of this forum is from Greeneville.

I have some questions about accomodoations there.

Thanks,

Norm

Hey Norm.

I'm in Greeneville, and this is the first I've heard of the flat track race! Is it up at the Volunteer Speedway near Moshiem?

As far as accomodations here, there are all of the standard chain motels in town. The best one is probably the Hampton Inn, and it is right beside a great restaurant to boot (Fatz Cafe). Here is the link:
http://www.hamptoninn.com/en/hp/hote...tyhocn=GRVTNHX If the race is at Volunteer Speedway, that would be about a 15 - 20 minute drive (ride?) to the track on US 11E.

If you prefer primitive camping, I would suggest Paint Creek on Hwy 70. It is a wonderful ride that continues to Hot Springs, NC. There are several different campgrounds throughout the ride, and there are public restrooms and picnic areas almost the entire way. Trout fishing is a big thing there, as the creek follows the road until both converge at the French Broad river. Beautiful place if I say so myself.

Give me a shout, and I'll give you all the info I can. If you're riding the Strom down and it fits in your schedule, I'll map out some nice routes for us to ride while you're here.

My wife just reminded me that there is a chain hotel in Bulls Gap just a very short distance from Volunteer Speedway. I *think* the one she is referring to is the Super 8 - http://www.super8.com/Super8/control...opertyId=08601

I'm working on her right now to firm up our plans for the weekend as I would love to attend this race. Did you pre-order tickets? Were they mailed to you or sent through email?

I went for a ride up there sunday morning.

It is at the Volunteer Raceway.

I usually stay at the Hampton Inn on business and will try to stay there, however, I think they're booked up.

As far as primitive camping goes, I'd prefer not to.

I haven't pre-ordered tickets, in case the weather gets bad.

I'd like to ride the bikes up there, there's great riding between Asheville and Greeneville, kinda up to my wife on that issue.

I knew there was someone on this forum from Greeneville, perhaps we'll see you at the race.

Sounds good. Were you on a red Strom by any chance? I saw three in Gville Sunday morning while the wife and I were out for a ride. I was two-up on a silver Strom w/ Givi luggage. The red Strom I saw was on Hwy 70 headed up the mountain towards Asheville, and we were coming down the mountain.

Keep me posted - we may indeed be going to the race. Working on the wife now.
