Talking PO Sloke ride repeat for layabouts

PO Sloke described what I thought was an interesting ride, https://stromtrooper.com/showthread.php?t=33629, which didn't happen because of a scheduling conflict.

Now that Thursday, 12/18 is looking to be a great day w/ no rain, so I plan on doing that route. I don't expect Wes can make it, it being a workday, but for those of us lazin' about, this should be a great opportunity to take advantage of what will be rare weather during this winter.

A highlight for me will be the stop in Helen GA, as I am a fool  for all that silly imitation-German stuff (sort of like Europeans come here to look at Indians). I might even take a quite side jump to Germany, GA just save on airfare across the Atlantic.

My Garmin software tells me that the route as planned has a minimum of 177 miles, starting and ending at Highlands. Although I like to ride briskly, road and group conditions permitting, I also like to stop at natural wonders and all that, so this will be a long day. Especially since I am coming from Asheville, trip total will be 307 miles. I'm allowing for 8 hours of riding time within 10 hours of daylight. I'm thinking of leaving Asheville at 7:30, planning to make it to Highlands by 8:45, leaving Highlands at 9:00

Who wants to come?

Wish I could. Hope the weather holds out for you. Going to be cold and wet here for the rest of the week.

I'd love to be able to make this ride though. The wife and I stayed in Helen for a few days earlier this year and we liked it. Sure, it's basically a tourist trap, but it was fun and the riding around there is excellent. I should have kept a log of the roads we traveled. That entire area is a great place to ride.

Current ride:
2006 Yamaha FJR1300AE, Cerulean Silver
2005 Suzuki DL1000, blue - sold

Will there be washing of clothes in the sink?

Motomixon ,next week or the following week would be better for me as I have these off. Sorry I can't make it this week, however I look foward to riding with you one day.
Regards Mike D.

It just figures, now that I am old and wise enough to stop and smell the roses, I would lose my sense of smell.

It will happen. I'm free to ride during the week or weekend. 12/23 I'm taking off to Florida for about 5 days.

Where in SC are you?

Friday appears to be even warmer in my area. And next week more managable (upper 40s) than last. Hope the prediction holds true.

I'm in Walhalla SC. Oconee County has some fine roads for riding both paved and gravel. I'll be in touch so we can hook up and ride one day during the holidays. By the way, where are you going in Florida? My lovely wife and I lived in the Melbourne area for 15 years.

Ok, I found you on the map, a nice part of the state to be in! Close to NC and GA.

Yes, stay in touch. 'Cuz of family issues, I can't tell if I'll be back until late 12/29. But maybe we can put it together. Otherwise, Year: 2009

I'm off to Sarasota, FL. Last year I rode the Wee down there -- as ever, an impressive little bike, always a comfortable ride going for the distance. But a little cold, and this year a good chance to be a lot colder. So I'm going via auto.
