I really wish I was there because if I was there, then Jack Frankenfield would likely still be alive. Not that the Toy Run had anything to do with his death, but his death had everything to do with my non-participation in the Toy Run.
Jack was father of one of my best friends, Jim. Jim owned the first motorcycle I rode, a Honda Elsinore 125. His dad, Jack, was the dad that eveyone else in the neighborhood wish they had. He took his family and a bunch of the neighborhood kids on camping and canoeing trips, taught us how to shoot, drive and cuss eloquently, was also a sympathetic ear for many of the neighborhood boys whose fathers where otherwise occupied. He will be greatly missed.
On the up side, I'll be visiting three nieces born into my family in the last year or so.
Next week, I should be back to form, offering my usual array of posts, ranging from the inane to the asinine. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and hug someone you love.
