Carolina Beach Recommendations

Gonna be a Carolina Beach NC next weekend. Gonna do a day trip Saturday start and finishing there. Anyone know any good routes in that area?

I went to North Myrtle Beach in October -- lovely, just lovely, but had nothing to do with motorcycles.

ah....Carolina Beach. Used to be our favorite spot when I was stationed at Fort Bragg (and pre-motorcycle). I'd second a lazy ride to N Myrtle Beach, eating my my there.

Try to snake down to 211 to take the ferry from Southport to CB for something different. That way you can avoid the silliness of Wilmington traffic. I usually head through Charlotte on my way to WNC so routes to/from Raleigh aren't in my bag of tricks, if you find something good let me know. I really should explore this area more. Stay off of 40 unless you're in a hurry (but you knew that already).

Looks like a lot of rain Fri and Sat with temps dropping Sat, ride safe. Make sure to stop by the Fat Pelican for a beer and Michael's Seafood for national award winning seafood chowder

Yep, we like Myrtle Beach too.

Our favorite beach destination, but then again we don't get out much...

And October / fall is a great time to go. The ocean's still warm enough and most of the tourists / visitors are gone.

2012 Wee2 Adventure. Black. Bought at 26K miles. Now 43K+. Love it!

Hilton Head welcomes motorcyclists with open hatred.

Myrtle is for turtles

I recollect that Myrtle Beach sought to repel motorcyclists a few years ago.

I think it went like this:

Myrtle Beach town council: Because South Carolina does not have a law requiring motorcycle helmets, Myrtle Beach will enact one.
They passed a law requiring all people on motorcycles to wear helmets.

Not surprisingly, the government of South Carolina learned of this,
and their reaction was swift, decisive, and devoid of respect.

1. South Carolina has a law about adult bikers and helmets.
Here it is, for the ignorant: Helmets are optional in South Carolina, all of it.

2. South Carolina's traffic laws are made here in Columbia, the capital.
Even if Myrtle Beach's intention were NOT to repel bikers, we will not have our state turned into a patchwork of laws, so that helmets are required here, reflective tape is required there, and hinged footpegs are forbidden elsewhere. Traffic laws are universal throughout the state.

Regardless of SC's fine response, I stay repelled.
Clearly, Myrtle Beach does not want me or my money, and will see neither.

Your mileage may vary, so go there if you choose.
Have a finger ready if you meet the sort of people who seek to repel you.

Keith

Few years ago we were invited by friends to a resort on Hilton Head.

We were welcome as long as we parked our motorcyles elsewhere.

Later I learned of some hotels there that had a no M/C policy.

You could stay as long as your bikes were parked elsewhere. They'd gladly send the coutesy van to fetch your filthy biker ass.

I would only go to Hilton Head to shoplift.

Go a little south to Murrells Inlet. A very nice town with great food and drink along the marsh walk.
