Myrtle is for turtles
I recollect that Myrtle Beach sought to repel motorcyclists a few years ago.
I think it went like this:
Myrtle Beach town council: Because South Carolina does not have a law requiring motorcycle helmets, Myrtle Beach will enact one.
They passed a law requiring all people on motorcycles to wear helmets.
Not surprisingly, the government of South Carolina learned of this,
and their reaction was swift, decisive, and devoid of respect.
1. South Carolina has a law about adult bikers and helmets.
Here it is, for the ignorant: Helmets are optional in South Carolina, all of it.
2. South Carolina's traffic laws are made here in Columbia, the capital.
Even if Myrtle Beach's intention were NOT to repel bikers, we will not have our state turned into a patchwork of laws, so that helmets are required here, reflective tape is required there, and hinged footpegs are forbidden elsewhere. Traffic laws are universal throughout the state.
Regardless of SC's fine response, I stay repelled.
Clearly, Myrtle Beach does not want me or my money, and will see neither.
Your mileage may vary, so go there if you choose.
Have a finger ready if you meet the sort of people who seek to repel you.
