Cherohala Skyway Dirt Roads

I was up at the skyway (Robinsville, NC/Tellico Plains, TN) this weekend-cruising in my buddies new turbo Solstice- and ran across dozens of off-road vehicles using the skyway. Does anyone have a link to these back roads surrounding the skyway? Also, are any of these roads DL1000 friendly? Better yet, does anyone want to meet up there on the next warm weekend to ride these roads (that is, if they really exist)? I'm really looking forward to hitting more dual-sport roads on the vee this spring, so the more info I have the better.

Thanks,
Danny

Tige and I are down there all the time doing dirt on our wee's. You are welcome to join us. Coop74 lives your way and rides with us so he may chime in too. If you run across a guy called Python on ADVRider he knows all those roads and is awesome to ride with. We recently thought him what the v-strom can do and he is no longer a doubter. I'll post a link to the ride report when I find it.

Read all about the ride with Python here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...t=python+strom

Aren't there some ORV trails at the end of the road that the waterfall's on off the Cherohala in Tennessee.

I'm in if I have my engine guards by then. I've never taken the strom (or any dirt bike) off road so you'll have a newbie. Hopefully I can hit some easy stuff before then so I won't be a total greenhorn.

Cherhalla Skyway Area

There are tons of potential trails/roads in the area. If you are in the greater Knoxville area and give me a jingle. I live here and on the wall in my garage is a nice map showing most of the roads. If you have a gps a lot of them are there as well.

haven't had a chance to ride them with my Vee yet, but there's plenty of good riding that is Vee capable based on some of my SV650 riding

a couple of excellent area maps

it's how I found the road in the above photo and more

the gravel dragon - Long Creek Road/Tatham Gap Road from Robbinsville to Andrews has gotta be my favorite though, it's tight, twisty and steep, mostly scattered loose surface on a compacted improved surface, generaly good condition, occasional washout, a landslide area last time I was there, some deeper loose stuf in the corners on the lower part on the andrews side. Beaver Creek road from Andrews is another link into the Snowbird range then out toward the cherohala, cross over, and keep riding along your best guess route, and before you know it your in Telleco Plains. Make sure you have a full tank of gas even then, your fuel indicator will likely flash before you get there

Thats Tellico ORV area. Not very Strom friendly area. But as already stated, there are a LOT of very good roads in that area !

Yep. I've been on that dirt section which runs back up to the paved road near the state border. It's not at all bad for the Strom.
