led headlight on my Wee

I am toying with the idea of buying a heated jacket and a pair of heated pants (I already have heated grips), but I am concerned that my 2011 Wee could not handle that much demand on the electrical system. I'm thinking I could do all that if I shut off my headlights (daytime only) and used two or more led headlights in their place to remain legal. Has anyone out there tried that? Could I make it bright enough and would it be street legal? If so, I can't find information about it on either this formum nor the internet in general.

Turning off one headlight will keep you legal and provide enough power.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

That would probably be a lot easier than putting in led's. Thanks for the earlier reply to my question about how to start a new thread Greywolf. I appreciate it.

I don't have one yet, but I'm looking at adding this for similar concerns:

Those switches look pretty good. I think that might be the route to go. I have not really decided if I need or want to get heated gear yet. I won't be doing any winter riding, but I will be going over some high mountain passes as well as doing some riding in the far north. If I do decide to get the heated pants and jackets, putting a cut-off switch for one of the two lights would work well. I think I like that a lot better than my idea of getting led bulbs.

LEDS are not yet bright enough to be legal for headlights and NONE are DOT approved.

I'll ride for hours with temps in the 30s with a heated jacket liner, gloves, grips and socks under an Olympia two piece suit. The insulated pants are all I've ever needed for my legs.

Will the electrical output on a dl 650 handle an electrical vest and heated grips and a gps? Without unhooking a headlight I mean.

Yes. Put in a voltmeter anyway. If you do a lot of time at idle with that stuff on full power, it can be dicey but over 3000rpm should be fine.

I run a pair of TT Denali LEDs in addition to my headlights. They consume only 10 watts each and work great as daytime running lights. From a distance they look like they are larger than my headlights and the whiter color makes them much more visible. The are so visible in the day, it appears as if my stock headlights are not even on.

If you disconnect one of your headlights to save the 55 watts of power it consumes, you may consider a set Denali's for extra daytime visibility.
