Possible problems in "For Sale" forum

I've been here over 30 days, but I don't have 20 posts yet. I completely understand why I shouldn't be able to post in For Sale and I agree with the policy.

The problem I'm having is that I can't reply to a post, and I'm not sure my PMs are going through. I sent PMs to three members with bikes for sale last week, and haven't heard back from any of them. I'm not making stupid, lowball offers - I'm sending PMs that you'd reply to if you were selling a bike.

Is there a PM limit for n00bs, a bug in the code, or did I just pick 3 bikes who are owned by guys who no longer come here?

I just checked - none of the PMs I sent were sent (or at least aren't in my "sent" folder).

I'm just trying to buy a bike, but I can't contact anybody who is selling one.

Could somebody point SoCalTech, vaara & PermanentMarker towards this thread?

They all have bikes I'm interested in - and are 10 to 400 miles away.

Could you thee please reply to this thread, or send a PM with contact info?

Cash in hand, and I'm not from Nigeria.

Not necessarily correct.

Check your set up under User CP/Edit Options and make sure the box is ticked that says "Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default"

Check the User details of the people you are trying to contact. They have have allowed contact by email as well as by PM.

I found a DL on Craigslist, so not posting in for sale doesn't matter so much any more.

But just for the record, not being able to reply in for sale, makes it much harder for new members to buy bikes & parts here.

I'm looking for a taller seat (DL1000 or the gel seat), and a few other goodies. At this rate, I'll have 20 posts in a few more weeks.

I like the site, and the info here.

I had the same problem when I was new. I didn't want to spam up things, but was PM-ing -- to no avail -- one guy with a bike FS.

Didn't seem to matter though, once I hit my 20 posts I replied to the thread and still got no response.

I would suggest the Noobs just become part of a conversation, ask for advice, etc...... Bfore you know it you'll have 200 posts.

The problem with that is us noobs will ask for all the same advise 1000 other noobs have asked for in the past. Then get griped at for not using the search function and so on..... Not allowing a noob to start a thread in a for sale section is legit, but not allowing one to reply to a threat which has already been started seems to be overkill
