Ebay links of general interest are now allowed. Was Ebay Links???

Re: Ebay links

What I have never understood is why this forum seems to be the one of the only Vertical Scope owned forum that disallows ebay links

I have checked at least a dozen of the Vertical Scope owned forums and all of them allow ebay links.

In fact, some like the DucatiMonster.org actually have an ebay links section, where members can post their ebay finds.

eBay Auction Links Section - Ducati Monster Forums: Ducati Monster Motorcycle Forum

So why are ebay links not allowed on this forum?

Is this a corporate decision or simply a case of the mods on this forum not liking ebay?
It seems that everyone here just accepts the deleted posts and threats of banning??

Can we get a definite answer on this from Vertical Scope?

Answered in your previous thread at https://www.stromtrooper.com/1970841-post16.html

There is no banishment warning for posting ebay links in https://www.stromtrooper.com/sale/620...*********.html

Banning only mentioned in the marketplace rules for post padding and I've never done that. Permanent banning is pretty much limited to spammers and knowing copyright violators or QR code users. Suspension or temporary banning may be used for repeat offenders and abusive posters though enough repetition of such behavior can result in a permanent ban.

So from this I gather ebay links are allowed?

From what I have seen on this forum, 99.9% of the ebay links that are posted by forum members are to help fellow forum members find some accessories for their bikes, or to ask other members what they think of the listed item? Not posted for personal gain.

If Vertical Scope are OK to allow ebay links to be posted, then that is how it should be right?

Verticalscope normally doesn't make changes to site rules already in place. I think I'd be pretty good at figuring out whether an ebay link is community serving or self serving. If Fatalerror wants to change to rule to no self serving ebay links, I'd give it a try.

I've asked and been given permission to change the ebay rule. See below.

I've requested a rule change to forbid ebay links only in posts where members are linking their own ads.

Change approved. https://www.stromtrooper.com/sale/620...*********.html

Members still may not post links to their own sales or auctions. They can post links to those areas of general interest.

Greywolf - thanks for running that change up the flag pole. I had (mistakenly) posted just such an item (seeking input on an item I found on ebay) which you had deleted the link to according to the rules. (and I understand - you were only enforcing the rules). I am glad to see this is allowed now - to me it only ads value to the forum. I have found this forum to be a great help for me - keep up the great work!

No longer a Vstrom Owner - fantastic bike! Now sporting a KTM 990 Adventure
