Question "New Posts" Clears Before Being Read

Sometimes/Often when I view New Posts and then select a thread to view, when I select New Posts again the number of posts is greatly reduced -- often from multiple pages down to one page.

It's as if they're marked as read so the next time back to New Posts the others are gone.

I'm running IE10 with automatic updates so it should be current. Is this a setting I need to change, or operator error?

The site is set for posts to time out an hour after log on except for posts made after log on less than one hour old. If it takes more than an hour for reading and replying, select Quick Links and Today's Posts to see the last 100 posts.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Hi Pat,

Is there a way to change that?

No other board that I am on does it and it is really frustrating! If I log on and have 5 threads that I am subscribed to and say I read only one and then log off (say a client walks it) or don't even read them the everything is marked read.

..Tom

My Opinion:
Vee or V= DL1000 before 2014
Vee2 or V2 = DL1000 2015 to 2019
Vee3 or V3 = DL1050 2020 to?

My Stroms:
2006 DL650: 202,000 km 125,500 miles, Sold
2012 DL650 139,500+ km, 86,700+ miles. Sold
2015 DL1000 New July 2015 205,000+ km, 127,000+ miles.

This can help preventing from cars pulling out in front of you (SMIDSY)

I don't know the ramifications but I'll ask.

FWIW you might ask them to make it work like the SVRider board (also Vertical Scope) does. It only marks as "Read" threads you've opened, and it also shows older posts underneath a bar that reads "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts."
Much better system IMO.

Interesting ... that probably does explain it. I thought I had to read the posts to have them "fall off" the New Posts list. However I think I've seen it clear the New Posts list when I've been on for less than one hour. I'll watch it closer now.

Thanks!

Do you mean this board does? I have seen it a time or two, but in general when you click on "New Posts" the only threads that come up are ones that have a new post since your last visit. The SV board shows you older threads too, below that divider. The other nice thing is that it's not limited to 100 threads, so if it's been a couple of days you don't miss anything.

The behavior doesn't seem to be browser-dependent, it acts the same for me under FireFox, Chrome and IE.
