Has anyone done the ride over piute mountain to jawbone? I searched and found nothing. Lake isabella area is full of fun roads, paved and dirt. I thought there would be some mention of it on this site. Also sherman pass and kennedy meadows is really nice.

Done some of the paved roads in the area. Camp at Kern River and ride over Sherman pass to 395. Some of the group and had some classic get offs in the area.

Have you checked Kelso valley rd? Seems it may lead you that way.
You could take Breckenridge to the bodfish/caliente rd as a start, I see there is a Piute Mtn rd on the Bing maps.
There is a Clear Creek Rd out of Havila that seems to wander east to the Piute Mtn rd. That looks like it ties in to Kelso Valley rd.
Plenty of not straight stuff!

Yes that sounds like the route im looking for. I think you can connect from hwy 58. Last time I was up piute mountain, a huge group of adventure bikes came through. Talked to one guy, said they were coming from Bakersfield headed to bullhead city. Mostly all dirt. Sounded awesome to me. Ill be out there mid sep. I like to camp at rincon camp near the bottom of sherman pass rd. Near the kern river.

Wifes' dad had 5 acres with a trailer on it near Twin Oaks. But he hadn't signed the final divorce paper before he died and the ex wife got the property.
A buddy and I rode back in their once. Nice area in the boonies with lots of survivalists. Woulda made a good base for exploring the area.

I've done this trip through the Piutes, part of it on a VStrom and part on a KTM. There are some steeper, powdery switchbacks dropping off the ridge east of Claraville, and sand at the eastern-most end when you drop off the ridge into Jawbone and before you get to the paved road. I don't remember how deep the sand was because I was on the KTM for that section.

I hope you can see this link, let me know if you can't see it.

I rode from Santa Cruz to Paso robles on hwy 25 past Hollister hills. Stayed there a few days. Then from Paso out to Bakersfield and Lake Isabella. My goal that day was motel 6 in Mammoth. Fun ride up 395. Next day I rode north on 395 to goose lake oregon. I met family there and camped 3 nights. In the modoc forest area I rode around 250 miles of nice smooth dirt roads. Great scenery, nobody around up there. Goose lake campground was nice. Hot showers included for 17$.
Then I headed back on some nice scenic roads out by pyramid lake. Looped around Reno on the east side. Doing 80 mph for at least 3 hrs i made it to bishop. Camped at Big pine. Next day went south to Sherman pass road and over the mountains all the way to Ducor. That was the best 100 miles of my trip. Planning Death valley in january.
