My 2018 Alaska adventure

So...I haven't posted here in a long time, but I used to be a frequent visitor, and have been riding my V-Strom for almost 10 years now. Last summer I finally took my dream trip on her to Alaska.

The trip went very well, with almost no mishaps except for perhaps the wrong choice of boots!!

Anyway, here's a link to my report,

https://georgebike.blogspot.com/2018...-lifetime.html

Hope you enjoy it and are inspired to take your dream trip soon!

Fantastic; I love reading these ride reports, and hope to one day post one of my own!

I pulled up Google Maps and followed you along on your adventure.
You rode thru Lakeview, Or, where my in-laws have lived their whole lives. :-)
In Fairbanks, you stayed 3 miles from some of my best friends, who own and operate Bucko's Coffee!

Which tires did you use, and did you make it on a single set?

Glad you enjoyed the report!

I enjoyed my brief stay in Fairbanks but didn't make it to Bucko's. I do recommend Lavelle's Taphouse if you're so inclined ;-)...

I put fresh Trailwings on to start this ride and they're still on the bike although the rear is starting to look a little shabby. I think they were pretty much perfect for my route.

I enjoyed the trip report greatly. I'm heading for Yellowknife this summer and loved to read about your adventure, roads, towns, mechanic and such. We won't be going the same way for most of our trip but it gives me an idea of what to expect. Thank you for posting it.

George, what was the reason given for the Dalton being closed north of Coldfoot?

Nice write up. It's armchair adventures like yours and others with great pictures plus a story told by a friend that took his motorhome there and back that are saving me from making the trek in person. If I were 20 years younger that trek might have some appeal.
When I read it last night I enjoyed my cigar and Whiskey while listening to the rain pound outside the window. Perfect.
