I got back yesterday and had an absolutely amazing time! I think ideally I would have had 8 days on the island that would have given me enough time to visit St.John's.

Gros Morne was amazing, so much to see and do!

Any gear, or accessories, you would add to your 1000 as learned from this trip to The Rock?

No I have my bike pretty well sorted. If you have been considering any suspension upgrades, i'd do that before The Rock! I have a Touratech Explore rear shock and Racetech springs/oil in the forks. I barely noticed all of the massive pot holes as I was floating over them It certainly took the harsh imapct away from them.

Bike
2018 1000
Avon Spirit ST tires
Touratech Explore rear shock
Racetech fork springs and oil
Adventuretech peg lowering kit, gps mount, kick stand enlarger and mirror extenders
seat concepts tall seat
givi outback trekker 48L side cases 58L top cases
Givi crash bars

Gear
Alpinestars Corozal boots
First Gear Kilimanjaro 37.5 jacket/pants
Alpinestars Corozal gloves

I had a fleece jacket to wear underneath for rainy days. Having gear like the kilimanjaro that is both breathable and waterproof was a huge advantage on the rock as it has a chance of raining every day. My buddy was putting his rain gear on and off a few times a day.

Any questions or anything ask away!

And here I thought upgrading to the 1000 would solve my suspension upgrade wants

Agreed on the gear. I brought the whole family out there last summer, pulled the trailer and spent 2 full weeks on the island, 3 weeks total travel. It was amazing! You'll definitely want a suit that is all in one... pulling rain gear on will get old after a while.

That's where I met V-Tom, waiting in line for the ferry home!

The suspension on the 1000 is improved compared to the 650 by a significant margin. It still left me wanting more though but to be fair i'm a big guy and do a lot of 2up riding. If you don't plan on upgrading the suspension whatever you do, do NOT ride a Vstrom with a Touratech setup

I'm not sure where it went but there was an article on here from David Booth of Cycle Canada magazine where he goes into detail on the suspension upgrades. I did the touratech Explore rear shock, the forks I just did some racetech springs and oil.

Here's David's (motocanada) thread on his Traxion Dynamics/Touratech suspension mods. Here's the article mentioned.

And here's Berkglh's thread on his Racetech/Sasquatch suspension mods. (custom spacers not required for upgrade)
