Trip plan - Labrador, Cabot Trail, PEI

Leaving from Manitoba around August 2nd: Manitoba - Labrador - St-Johns - Cabot Trail. I need to be in Chester NS around Aug 11th... that's 650-800 km / day! Tenting rain or shine :bash I have some family meet ups in Chester NS and Tremblant QC. Other than that, it's riding time!

I hear the Labrador highway is paved a little more every summer. What's everyone choosing for tires?

I have a lot of places to see, not a ton of time!

https://trips.furkot.com/ts/YUHnvl

Ferry leaves 1pm

https://trips.furkot.com/ts/5p5bvf

Ferry leaves 5pm

https://trips.furkot.com/ts/ezUrMh

https://trips.furkot.com/ts/XcOUzj

I usually end up places a little sooner than what Furkot predicts. I don't waste time at fuel stops but do stop for photos here and there. Riding about 10% over the speed limit makes up for those extra stops.

Any advice?... Looking forward to Lobster rolls for lunch and proper poutine!

For tyres, I will be on my stock BW tyres. You can spend the money on other tyres, but for me I think the stock rubber is more then adequate.

Depends on your experience but from my view
Quote:
650-800 km / day
is not realistic that time of year for that area of Quebec and Labrador.

This is part of your route

June maybe you would get away with it with the longer daylight hours but there is a real risk of wildlife both morning and evening.

There are lots of riders with better feedback than me ..suggest you post it up here

Cruising / Touring

It can also get very wet at that time of year.

Trans-Labrador Highway

This might give you some tips.

10 Lessons Learned The Hard Way On The Trans-Labrador Highway - ADV Pulse

The good news is you have options to bail once you get near Rouyn Noranda. You can pick up the Trans-Canada - lovely riding.

After Day 4 I'd be leery of making good time as you've planned. Nice to see a Furkot route.

I agree that's a lot of miles every day. I did a cross country ride in the US last summer and left some days to be off the bike. I did average around 300 miles a day but on the way home I was doing 650/day on the interstate.

OP - You have a good but ambitious route but the section between Rouyn-Noranda and Saguenay I'd seriously reconsider. Could mess up your entire trip.

BTW - add Meat Cove at the top of Cape Breton to your route.

Packed gravel I don't mind, most roads in Manitoba are not paved! I think I planned an avg of 70 kph in the gravel sections, about 550-600km per day. On top of the world highway last summer I don't think we dropped below 90kph! That being said, I'll be looking for ride reports in July.

Thanks for the link to Egle's report, I had forgotten about it.

From other riders - TransLab a whole nother set of issues from the TOW. Really put up the route on the GTA board as several have done it recently.
You might also get some pushback on doing NFLD in that tight time frame .... we initially set 740 km per day for our west coast trip and then dropped it down to 520 per day which worked out fine with two days to spare out of three weeks.
I was surprised chatting with some ST1100 riders in Aus that they set up for 450 km per day. Thought that was low.

That said you have an obvious escape route at Rouyn Noranda on to the TransCanada and that's truly a lovely ride. Fuel can be a bit of an issue even therenbut unlikely with your 650. I assume you will travel with extra.
