Question Trip Advise NE to Big Bend NP in Texas, Spring 2018

To those in the know, will you please share a few must visit places and must ride roads on our way from the East/ North East to the Big Bend NP in Texas. I am planning to route somehow via as much hilly/ remote areas as I can find to make the trip to/ from more enjoyable like Shawnee, Mark Twain, Ozark, Ouachita NF. And then there is Texas, we can ride for days. Include the Texas Hill Country. And finally, Big Bend NP. And then what route back.

We come from different starting points but let’s assume we want to route from somewhere around Cincinnati to Big Bend and back. My thinking is to take a more southerly route going west and a more northerly coming back.

What would be the best time in spring for Texas not being too hot and going to and from reasonable temperatures and not constant rain?

It is already hitting 90 degrees here in May.........

Kerrville, Texas is a good base to ride the "Hill Country" from. Good campgrounds and motels in the area.

The hill country NW of Austin is really nice. We visit there frequently in March/April and I look forward to a trip there on my motorcycle in a couple years after I retire.

I am looking for paved roads please since my buddy has a big street bike, so we avoid longer stretches of gravel or dirt.
