June Lake Superior loop

Was purely spur of the moment .....worked out ... tho it was more bucket list than sight seeing ....I had planned this for August when it warmed up a bit but took a weather look and realized it was doable even this early.

3300 km ....4 days ... was a bit unorganized for packing so a few things missing but like a spare riding shirt ...I did have enough cool weather gear and munchies - hot weather really was horrid on the way home 95 in the shade and a 3 season jacket ...pant pant.....Airglide pants were fine.

still there was some spectacular scenery on the north side of superior and I did not take time to explore it all

there were loads of lighthouses to explore

I just adore riding in the spring when the greenery is so vibrant...

came around a corner on M58 up toward Grand Marais ( nicest twisties in a while ) tho I was not pushing it ....and this young deer ...maybe two years old was standing in the middle of the road .....his coat was a bright chestnut - incredible contrast against the white on his coat and the surrounding forest...just a stunning memory .....I slowed...hoping I'd have time for the camera but he bounded off....

I did the full Lake Superior loop counterclockwise a couple of years ago. IMO, the north shore of Lake Superior is the best riding I've ever experienced. Of course, it helped that it was sunny and in the 70s that day; it may have been less enjoyable if a squall had rolled in. And that's always a possibility on the shores of what is truly an inland sea.

I've ridden M58 a couple of times and I agree that it's got some really fun twisties. But yeah, with the forest so close to the road, the concern for animals jumping out in front of you is always there.

If it's a good day to wash the bike, it's a better day to ride the bike.

It really was a lovely day and 16 was fine for my gear ...it was the turn at Duluth that threw me - to go from generally sunny with some clouds and cool to smoggy ucky windy twice the temperature. ( in C )

wish I had more time on that trip to stop and shoot....

This next trip is four days....slower speeds and very photogenic....just hope from some sun

The Grand Algoma Loop has been named the top weekend motorcycle tour in Ontario twice.

The 2013 Ontario Motorcycle Tour of the Year: The Grand Algoma | Northern Ontario Travel

That is looking like a wrap except I think I'm better to do it in reverse looking at the weather.

I lied .. 4 days three nights about 2400 km and slower pace except to and from.

Okay ...booked in Iron Bridge 573 Km for Friday ....lets hope weather cooperates.

Saturday is Algoma Loop 569 km and a touch of luxury at Super 8 in Sault

Then into Michigan along the west side and home on Monday about 650 km

This is the second part of the same region as noted above

Michegan Take II

Unorganized pics

Fair number of deer, lots of sandhill cranes .... over all about 5600k km over 8 days which is average high for me...yesterday was brutal with the quartering wind

Sure glad this was on the other side.....what a stench and backed up traffic.

Extended: Firefighters battle Hwy 401 truck fire | CTV Toronto News

Was actually a very nice ride from the border ...golden hour and saw a deer and two fawns stepping slowly across the field next to the road.....going too fast to stop but was a lovely image to hold at the end of ther ride.

Got dark around Woodstock so just mindless fast Sunday night traffic. Was so wrapped up in my audio book and a bit groggy from the long ride went right by the Eglinton turn to home.....duh.

943 KM and my *** feels it. Gonna sleep well. Damn Michegan quartering wind tried to lift the tank bag then my cell phone in the X-mount.
Hard work....but then turn the corner at Flint and all is forgiven
That's the longest day ride since The James Bay road - about the same length.

2284 total KM ...a bit much for 3 days.

Couple of samples
The Algoma loop was grey and damp but still lovely - wisps of fog on the hills and trees.

Superior shore down from Wawa clear with fog which was neat

Took a break at Katherine Cove...people were swimming

A fav Group of Seven painting location.

Thanks - I learned my lesson about cheap cameras in places I'd likely never visit again.
Even in low light or iffy light the pics on a decent camera come out well and the MicroFourThirds format is is tiny.

( what took those pics )

but you can put on a 400 mm Leica ( 800 mm equiv) and shoot this at 1/2 mile.

Of course it looks a bit odd and the lens itself weighs 3 x the camera - the same lens in the larger heavier cameras run $11k instead of $2k for MFT version.

I don't usually carry the big lens on the motorcycle but even with 300 mm equivalent 150 mm X series...it's still small and light...I drop the barrel into the pocket of my riding shirt and takes away all the weight from my neck

That little X series 150 can shoot some superb photos ..IQ is so good.

You are building a lifetime of memories ...don't cheap out on the camera. I usually buy used ....we bought a GX1 body for $140 US.
By separating the lens purchase from the camera .....if something fails in the camera your lens purchase stays valuable. Long trips with GF we have two MFT cameras and my lens assortment and sometimes she gets the better pics

We shot this guy breaching at the same time and her's was the better shot

she went from avoiding the camera to click happy
