A teacher rides to to CA from DC

Getting ready to start my solo ride. It's nice to have the summer off. I bought my dl650 specifically for this. Im not an English teacher so forgive me if my grammar is terrible. I am the art teacher variety.

Im hoping on staying with advrider tentspaces or anybody that will allow me to camp in their backyard. Been trying to find some couchsurfers to let me stay, but no one seems to be interested or maybe im not interesting enough.

My date for departure so far is next week. Getting the vstrom ready.

Anything i should bring. I have my camping gear. I might bring a stove to make some rice and beans as they are the cheapest thing i can get that will fill me up.

Staying at tentsites will help lots with the costs, as a teacher and a private school teacher the pay isnt great. But the benefit is the time off.

Ill keep this thread alive and hopefully riders from here will want to meet up, tag along and ride and/or offer some tentspace. Id be greatful for all.

Avoid mentioning the beans and you might get more takers on couchsurfers.
Posting a general route or itinerary would be helpful. You will find plenty of lists of what others bring or consider necessities by searching the site. If not, you will find out and be able to purchase along the way.

You missed an apostrophe, btw, arts man. Forgiven, though, 'cause you warned us.

Oh! CA-lifornia, not O! CA-nada? I guess an offer of backyard tentspace, bike maintenance facilities, a fridge with cold micro-brews and use of the BBQ to cook something other than beans and rice would just go unused. Oh well ...

Have a nice trip.

I live near Knoxville if you get this way. I have a garage with tools up to and including a tire changer and lift. Tent space is all around as well. You just need to post some type of route in order for people to offer a place to camp.

I'm most likely not on your route but good luck with your trip. Try and post pictures as you go because as we all know "without pictures it never happened"
Ride well

As a fellow teacher, I'm already thinking about the stories you will share with future students. I wonder how many of them will be inspired to travel the world because of your experience.

I am not on your route (not even close), but I hope others will help you along the way.

If you can help this rider out with a spot to camp or a meal, please do so.
