Gattlingburg TN Ride Cades Cove / Parsons Branch

My riding buddy and I have a ride planned for mid Sept going up to Gattlingburg and plan to take the Parsons Branch Road out of Cades Cove back over towards the Dragon. Its one way out of Cades Cove. Has anyone taken that ride lately and if so what condition is the road in.

I've not been on that road for a few decades. Having said that, it was designed to carry passenger cars full of parents, kids, dogs and supplies safely from one end to the other. I've only traveled Parsons branch in my parents car and piloted a VW bug full of friends while an undergrad at UT. Youtube has videos that were recently shot through regular old car windshields.

I guess that I'll be accompanying a riding pal on the same route later this month on stroms and find out first hand (but after you do) about the condition. I'm not sweating it. I've never heard of anyone being swallowed up.

Never ridden Parsons, but I think there are 1-2 shallow creek crossings......no biggie tho.

Looks like the road is descent based on the info that I have seen on the net. I have street tires on the Strom . Just got the Strom and have been used to riding a KLR in the dirt. We might look for you at the Iron Horse Lodge if we are by that way. We are looking for places to stay, what is the going rate at the Iron Horse Lodge? We may head out to Ashville as they are having the annual Hellbilly Car and Bike show, never done that one so we might check it out. Ride safe.

Google their website........Iron Horse Lodge, Stecoah, NC.....I believe all the cabins are reserved, but plenty of camping space....and they may have some beds in one of the "bunkhouses"....just call them and see?? The Yamaha XS1100 Club will be there also.....they got most of the rooms, I believe. Should be fun and interesting!!
