Exploring Ohio State Parks

Hey Guys
This will be my feeble attempt at a ride report about Ohio State Parks.
You won't learn a damn thing you couldn't find in 5 minutes online.
For all you Ohio guys I'm sure you know a hell of a lot more than me
so please excuse my ignorance.
I hope to make this an on going report.
Look for a new update in about 2 weeks.
If you follow along don't mind the bad grammar and poor punctuation.
Oh yeah and the crappy cell phone photos.

First up- Delaware State Park.
http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/delaware
I left my home in Cleveland on Tuesday Aug 4 for an overnight stay at the park.
I had recently bought a Passport America camping card that offers 50% off campsites.
The card is good for 17 Ohio State Parks on Sunday thru Wednesday.
Passport America Campgrounds
The full electric site is $26. I paid $13 which left more money for beer.

I took some great back roads on the two plus hour trip down to Delaware.
I didn't take any pics on the way down, I was having too much fun riding.
I think I made it to the park about 3pm. Checked in and set up camp.

I recently bought some new gear. I'll give you guys my 2 cents.
The REI half dome plus tent and the REI flex lite chair.

Here's a pic of the tent without the rain fly.

I know a lot of you guys probably have the tent or the chair or something similar.
I love the chair packs small, comfy, stable. I weigh 200lbs and the chair felt strong.
I like the tent, it's a 2 person and can hold me and the gear.
I don't think I would sleep two in the tent but that's me.
The rain fly was kind of a pain but it was my first time using the tent.
I am happy with it and would buy it again.

When I checked in I told the college kid working the office to find me a nice quiet site.
He said dude it's Tuesday nobody's here, that works for me.
Here's a pic of all my neighbors.

After I got set up I jumped on the bike and rode a couple miles to a gas station for some beer.
Got back drank a few beers and ate leftover pizza from the day before.
All was good till about 7 pm when the mosquitoes found me. Damn, I forgot the bug spray.
I took a walk around to keep those bastards from biting me. Very few campers on a Tuesday.
The area I was in was very clean, restrooms were stocked and clean.
About 9 pm I started a fire and that helped keep the bugs away.
I turned on my ipod, drank the rest of my beer and looked at the stars till bedtime.
What a great night.

The next morning I got packed up and took a ride around the park.

Here's a picture of the beach.

After checking out the rest of the park,
I needed some coffee and headed 3 miles down the road to McDonald's for a cheap breakfast.
After breakfast it was time to head home.

The weather was great and the riding was awesome.
Now I'm looking forward to the next one.
Well, that is all I got for this trip.
I hope to update this thread every few weeks with a new park till the end of the season.
I'll leave you guys with a sign I saw on some back road on the way home.

Great report and yes that is a nice campground, but you never got to ride the really good roads in OHIO.......not even close.

Heading to Marietta in a week or so with my dad.
Anyone ever ride the Covered Bridge Scenic Byway rt.26?
I've been on 800 going to WV but don't really know the area.
I'm open to suggestions for roads around Marietta.

26....260.....536......255.....83....78.....800... ...all very good roads and all around Marietta. You should head down to my rally over Labor Day weekend "Sept 4th -6th", will be probably 90% V-Stroms there and the majority all from this forum. Check the events section if you have not, would love to have you come down.

Thanks for the info. If you guys are heading through Xenia and need a bunk I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the heads up Big B, I will check that out. I might be headed to Virginia and stop in on my way through.

Hey Big B
Thanks for the heads up on the roads. We will check them out.
Won't be able to make Labor Day weekend.
I have a annual camping trip with family that weekend, but thanks for the invite.

Thanks for the invite.
I guess we are staying at some hotel right on the river.
My dad's stayed there before.

be very careful if you ride 536. Yes it is twisty, and scenic, and a blast, but the road condition is not hot. I rode it along with 800 and 78 on july 17 this year. Loved 78 and 800 though

Whatever you choose to ride, enjoy it and be open to new experiences.

Yeah, 536 is kind of tore up (and it has a really good "gotcha" turn that gets new riders, btw).

255 just south of it is excellent and in good shape.
