Placement is good. Go to harbor freight and get some of their wheel chucks. Inexpensive but work well.
Leave the boxes on. If you took them off, you would need to find a place to store them. Less likely to get banged up where they are at.
4in is good spacing. If your concerned, go to HomeDepot and get some of the foam water pipe insulation. Everbilt 1 in. x 6 ft. Foam Pipe Insulation-ORP11812 - The Home Depot Cut and fit accordingly. Put on rim of boxes or on the wall of the trailer.
When on the road. Stop and re-adjust straps at 10 miles. Straps loosen up and expand with use ( good ones much less ). Check again at 50-100 miles.
Use good straps.....say again use good straps. A bit extra $$ but worth the cost. Love seeing the Electric Glides rolling down the road on a $200 Harbor Freight trailer with the $10 Harbor Freight straps 🤦♂️ .
