Weld 86 Skid Plate

After destroying my Givi plate on some rocks I was looking to find something steel, smaller and potentially stronger.

I think this plate looks much better than the aluminum bread basket and I'm thinking it will take love taps a little better.

That being said it has only 3 points of contact and does not cover the upper parts of the engine. It costs about $140 and I will be testing it out this weekend.

I dont work for them in any way, just sharing a nice looking, inexpensive plate.

oops your right, it is. Its so much heavier than the Givi I assumed wrong

I will not be doing any rock hopping on it. I bought a WRR to go with the V so I can give her a break.

Still, a nice plate for a decent price.

I broke in my Weld86 plate on my '11 650 yesterday at an OHV park. Had to keep my speed up through some of the single track whoops to keep the bike from high-centering and getting stuck. Other than some dings and scrapes through the powdercoat all is well. I can't say the same about my body this morning though...

wow, taking the v on single track. I thought I was crazy. The single track I ride my WRR would be damn near impassable for a big bike, I'm guessing you choose the routes well!

I did have quite a few people come up to me and ask if I was really riding "that big thing" around. I just chuckled and said "yup. It's a couple hundred pounds too heavy but it manages. I'm the one holding it back, not the other way around." I did have quite a few pucker moments going down rocky hills (but only fell once!). ABS certainly got a workout on those.

I have the Weld skid plate as well. The one on my 12 ADV survived a 10 week trip to western Canada and Alaska including Inuvek and Deadhorse. No problems at all. Just installed one on my wifes 2013 which will be tested soon enough. Although I do not anticipate any issues. It is a great product for the money.

I'll be taking mine to Mt Hood this weekend. No trails but some dirt/gravel. I have to admit I'm jealous of the skills to ride a V on single track. I work my butt off just keeping the WRR upright

I'm young and dumb; those things don't help. I used to do fire roads on my Ninja 500 before I got the strom. THAT was hard work.

I did gravel on my fz6. It did fine.... right up until it was sideways

that was when I realized I needed dirt ready vehicles
