Riding Partner Sought for May Trip to Southwest

In early May I am planning a 3-4 week ride from Seattle to/from the Southwest, where I hope to take in as many national parks and monuments, and great routes, as I can in a 3-4 week trip. Most of my trip will involve camping out, with some motel stays in inclement weather, etc.

In terms of personal information, I am a retired 64 year old married man with a broad range of interests. Most of my interests are outdoor-oriented -- cycling, bicycling, fishing, hunting, camping, golf, etc. I am left-leaning politically and tend to stay out of political discussions with those who lean the other direction. Although I'm not mechanically skilled, I can do very basic maintenance on motorcycles.

I have never taken a cycle trip longer than 5 or 6 days outside of the Northwest and want this trip to the Southwest to be the beginning of a new interest. My route to the Southwest will be a beeline south to get away from any unpleasant Northwest weather, then the possible routes and destinations will be wide open.

Looking for compatible riding partner with his / her own bike and camping gear who might want to share the experience, either in full or in part. PM me if you're interested in discussing this and we can initially chat over the phone.

I'm not able to join you on what sounds like a fun time and good experience, but if your route is not finalized, I highly recommend HWY 12 in Utah. I did it in a car on a road trip with my wife, but its a neat enough road that I called my Dad while on and told him he needs to drive it before he can't. If you are heading south, it starts at Torrey, UT which is a neat little place and home to Cafe Diablo, very good. Right near Torrey is Capitol Reef National Park. We stayed at the Torrey School House BnB, but there is the Fruita Campground there also. As you travel down HWY 12 there are all sorts of other places you can plan on stopping (Kiva Koffeehouse) or camping, but the big hitter is Bryce Canyon at the south end of the highway, I really like Bryce Canyon. When you finish HWY 12, just hop south on HWY 89 and make your way to Zion National Park, which is then pretty close to the Arizona border.

Yes, you need to ride around/explore southern Utah.... Hwy 12 is a must... Torrey/Cafe diablo is wonderful experience. Also Hells Backbone Cafe in Boulder, on hwy 12 is like being stuck in the wilderness with a five star chief. The stretch of hwy from Boulder to hwy 89 is unbelievable. Bryce and Zion are right there also.... And hwy 89 to the north rim of the Grand Canyon is a good day ride from Kanab. The north rim doesn't open for the season till around the 15th or so of May. Jacob Lake has camping and is at the junction/turn off to the canyon. So much to see.... You will be making another ride/visit again!
