Last Ride of 2013

Most of my riding the last month or so has been purely commuting with no real pleasure riding but I made a few hundred miles yesterday down to Washougal WA. I had found a promising looking road called Washougal River road and decided that this would be the first road test of my GOPRO Hero 3+ that I got as a Christmas present.

The GOPRO does not come with a memory card but my step daughter let me use her 2GB micro SD card. It turns out that that card will only hold about 7 minutes of video and at the end of the run the screen showed full. When I got home to check the video I hadn't even got to the beginning of Washougal River Road.

I definitely recommend that little run if you are down that way. Off of 14 take 17th St in Washougal follow through town till it turns into Washougal River Road, stay with it until you turn off onto Salmon Falls Road which will take you back to 14. 14 Back to Washougal is no disappointment either.

In the first pic you will see a canvas looking kick stand (actually a gun case). Inside it (and the reason for the trip to Washougal) was this.

A Rossi Wizard single shot in .223, turns out you can buy any number of barrels for these in most of the rifle calibers. I had the guy write me a receipt because I was a little nervous about getting some red and blue light attention riding down the road with a gun case plainly visible on my back. In the end the bladder won and I actually had to carry it into the men's room at a rest area (couldn't leave it unattended at the bike) No one acted like I was out of place at all.

Happy 2014 everyone.

Taking a gun case was a good idea. I wasn't so smart when I flew my plane down to a small airport, then borrowed courtesy car to go to a gun show. Found a great deal on a Remington 1100. It didn't dawn on me until I got back to the airport how awkward it was going to be to walk through the business, pay my fuel bill, then walk out to the plane with a shotgun in my hands. I was pleasantly surprised when no one seemed to notice or care about the gun.

That's a mistake you make only once, and probably only pre-9/11.

Falls at end of Washugal River Rd.

If you had ridden to the end of Washugal River Rd, there is a nice water fall. After that the road is all dirt.

Looks like a nice ride! I have added it to my list and will have to check out the waterfall too. Thanks for the tip.

the original GoPro used AA batteries and had a max capacity of 2GB SD cards. You would have to stop every 20 min or so to change batteries plus the card.

The new model is much better, but buy a class 10 64gb card for max recording time.
