Gotta give driving lessons

So my youngest son is in Oregon and has a job... as long as he gets his drivers license so I'm going to ride down and give an assist in that direction. Straight shot down I-5 to get to Sweet Home but here is the route I'm going to reward myself with on the way back.

MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map

I hope to leave by 7:00 a.m. Saturday, get to Detroit OR around 10:00 or 11:00, Mt Hood OR between 1:00 and 2:00, Randle WA by around 5:00 p.m. and home in Graham by about 8:00.

MapQuest is telling me I should be able to do this 335 mile trip in a little over 8 hours but I'm hoping the roads are just as crooked as they appear on the map and am estimating my time accordingly.

Anyway, if anyone is on or about these roads on Saturday and see a red DL1000 somewhat northbound, it's probably me.

that's awesome!! we're going to be sharing about 15-20 miles of that on Saturday! i'll be riding from trout lake over to kelso that day.

highway 14 is smooth and fast from bingen to carson, just be mindful of staters and sheriffs....carson up the wind river highway, then to the 25 up to randle is one of my favorite roads! old mans pass (the local name) is what you'll go up a between carson and the curly creek turn off (https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=W...=h&mra=pr&z=13) it's steep and really really tight turns

this is the section that we'll be sharing that day

i also really like the 7 that heads north out of Morton, only done it once, but remembered it was a good road...

i have ridden some other sections of your route, and you'll definitely enjoy yourself!

Looks like a great ride. I'll have to try Quartzville Rd sometime. Hadn't noticed it before.

Well, I took a wrong turn on 26 and wound up detouring a little further east than planned, wouldn't you know when I went to check the map on my phone there was no signal so I winged it and still made it home. Turns out where I was going to cross the Columbia was a toll bridge, didn't check the rates but I burned it up in gas anyway. Here are a couple of pictures

First Stop for gas I pushed a little far... was tempted to start a how low did you go thread.

Foster Dam OR... caught a few fish out of here when I was growing up.

That was going to be my entry into the picture of the week contest but then I ran by this place by accident.

NF 11 (Quartzville Road) should be done mid day or with the sun to your back. the glare was terrible at times... I was so blinded I couldn't see enough to stop for a second or two at a time was just praying that I wouldn't run off the road or hit anything. It really stopped me from seeing into the corners to see how to take them. the road itself was great I just took it at the wrong time of day.
In this picture you can just barely see Mount Jefferson.

And any of you Oregon people who haven't discovered FS 42... go discover it. No pictures but it was fun.

I seen the new tank design on the 2013 650's, didn't occur to me that they were smaller... also a little odd for my 2012 to be referred to as "older"
