Virginia is a wonderful place to ride.
Virginia is a terrible place to ride.
It depends on where you go, and probably when.
A few years ago, I wanted to leave Williamsburg VA and go home to Florida.
Head south? Well, yes, but the most obvious course led, via expressways,
to an endless string of cities. Thank you, I know what a Wal-Mart looks like,
and it's none too scenic.
I studied the map, and headed instead for the ferry to Scotland VA.
This choice was fortunate, because it led to secondary roads that went
southward but combined efficient travel with a scenic and pleasant ride.
There is a map entitled "A MAP OF SCENIC ROADS IN VIRGINIA".
I recommend it. The Commonwealth of Virginia provides this free,
for example at rest areas along Interstate Highways. If you are not
near one of those, visit Virginia Department of Transportation: Home
and you will likely learn how to get one.
If you want a longer ride, I suggest the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
There is a $10 ferry ride at the end, but motorcycles are treated kindly
by the ferrymen, as they seem to be throughout the USA and Canada.
Enjoy your rides. <- redundant advice, because how can you not?
