Roads not to miss in the Catskills

Hey gang me an a buddy are doing a 4 day trip up into the Catskills from down in Baltimore and would like to know of some nice roads or anything we should not miss. I figure we would base out of Kingston for two days so any advice would be welcomed.

In the thread I made right below this one, someone suggested to me Rt 47 near Big Indian. Might want to check that out, looks pretty good.

Thanks, I want to get as many as I can when we are up there in two weeks. I have been in the area before but only for skiing in the winter and as a kid when my dad used to take me up there hunting as a boy and that was almost 40 years ago.

There are so many awesome roads in the Catskills, it's hard to count. But I'll give you a few that I find memorable.

Peekamoose road. Twisty and fun, the road is not in the greatest condition, but it's not bad.

This pict is from Yaegerville Rd it's right next to Peekamoose Rd. Both are off RTE 55A.

RTE 47 Frost Valley, very Similar to Peekamoose. Another winner!

Rte 47

RTE 28A, Twisty and smooth sailing.

Barkaboom Road. Beautiful, twisty and scenic. It's like going back in time.

Barkaboom road. Get out the time machine.

I'll tell you this, no eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.

There are no bad roads in the Catskills.

There are no bad roads in Vermont either.

I suggest you pick up a copy of "Gunks Trails" by Edward Harvey. Harvey is a forest ranger in the Shawangunks, that part of the Catskills between about Ellenville and Kingston and including Minewaska and Mohonk. He has a lot of information on roads and trails as well as the geography and geology of the area. New Paltz would be a good base for exploration of the area. Of course, I'm a little biased since I went to college there about 40 yers ago

Thanks for the book advise. My dad moved to Gardnier, NY which is just down the road. We are going to come up through Hazelton, PA and hit the Catskills from the South West and then stay in Kingston as a base of operations for two days. We figure we can hit many of the already suggested roads and then maybe do West Point since we are both former Army Pukes and my buddy has never been there. The ride out of there North bound on the River has some awsome views and it would be a cool place for some pictures. If I can figure out to do it I will try and post them on here for all to enjoy once we get back.

Oh yeah this is exactly what I am looking for. I am checking the long range forcast and it is looking sweet for our big ride. Ok for many of you it is not a big ride but it is huge for me. Thanks for the ideas and the Pics.
