Dirt / Gravel Roads in SW PA? (Pgh)

Anyone have recommendations for some good dirt/gravel roads around the Pittsburgh area? I typically use Google maps to plan out a route and just look for the smallest twistiest roads I can. Sometimes I come across a good dirt road, but it's purely luck as there is no road-type indication. Recommendations? Thanks.

Don't know about pa. area up near pitts. Have seen guys on adv. post pictures of places they've been out your way and it looks like there are some pretty fun spots, scenic as well. Head about 1 1/2hrs southeast of pitts, and you can have some fun in Greenridge State Forest, here in maryland.

Checked out my gps software...there are quite a few gravel roads south of pitts near Bells Lake (actually bells lake road is one). Looks like if you follow that continuing southward, you're bound to find more. A fun one looks like Camp Buffalo road...looks like there may be a ford there. Quite a few between Sparta and West Finley as well. Closer to pitts, Racoon State park and Hillman, both have some roads within the park and surrounding that are gravel/dirt (and west of there seems to be quite a few more to explore. Found out that you can pretty much ride the state line of pa clear into the lower western corner where you hit wv. pretty much entirely on dirt / gravel roads. May be worth exploring one weekend.

Hope this helps some...if ya find some good places take some pics. Am in deep creek / oakland area of pa. quite a bit, so maybe I'll swing up sometime.

Sounds good. If you want some practice I'll swing up your way sometime...there are a bazillion roads going through thurmont with all kinds of gravel which make for great practice. Even a small stream crossing up there.

Look for Robinson Church rd off rt 22 near Bulger. That's a good starting point to begin meandering through the country. I've spent many hours riding around looking for the worst dirt and gravel roads I could find. Jolly fun King rd will give you access to a large area of dirt/off road. Easy stuff, you can splash through some puddles there if you like. If the weathers been dry the puddles are easly avoided. That's were I took my brother for his first offroad ride on his shiny new KLR.

There are plenty of dirt roads east of Pittsburgh. You would need to run Rt 130 east to the Seven Springs area and enjoy the gravel. There is a 100 mile loop around the Laurel Mtns area which is mainly dirt roads. You can go North to the Kittanning area and there are quite a few dirt roads i have ridden in that area.
