OK folks , there is a new game in town . The 1st Official game of " STROM CACHERS . You have all heard of Geocacheing ? Well , this game is very similar but sort of has a twist . Sort of a mix between Geocacheing and Travel Bugging .

A cache is in place and on the move as I post this thread . It is quite simple to play . It is a game that is USA/CANADA based and STROM specific . Lot's of clubs and orginizations out there so let's have our own game to boot .

How it works . There is a small blue waterproof Otter Box with a clear lid in play . Inside the the case are a few items that must remain in the box when it travels . They are to remain permenant . One is the TAG itself . It is 3/4" X 4 inches long brass TAG with a black nylon corded lanyard . Inscribed on the tag are these words .

STROM CACHERS TAG
IF FOUND 828-553-2442
11/22/2008 USA

Also in the box is a small note pad and a pen . Which of course can be replaced when need be . The intended use of the pad and pen should be obvious . Within the box is the true CACHE . How the cache comes into play is this . I started the Cache Box Tag in play today with the afore mentioned items , PLUS , I added a small token as a reward to the person now carrying the Cache . The holder of the Cache as of now is Ridge Runner . When Ridge Runner got the Cache Box Tag , he took the cache I placed in there , and before he places the Cache Box Tag next , he will then put a new Cache ( or small token ) in the Cache Box for the next rider/carrier to keep . This will allow riders to possess something of the rider who had the Cache Box Tag before him . If you have ever been invlolved in Geocacheing , you'll understand . Oh yeah folks , also post up what the Cache is that was placed in the Box for you to keep . We'd like to hear about those itmes too .

OK . There are two basic rules regarding acquiring and or placing the Cache Box which goes like this .

(1) THE PREFERED METHOD . As I did today , I put the Cache Box Tag into play , I rode for a while today , then physically handed it off to Ridge Runner in person . Ridge Runner obviously at that time became Cache Box TAG carrier and possessor .
Within the PREFERED METHOD , there are endless variables . What we hope for here is that riders will plan rides in another riders area , post it up , and hand pass the Cache Box Tag personally . Yep , creating a meet and greet situaiton .
When the Cache Box Tag is acquired by a rider , he needs to get GPS coordinates of where he got it , a photo of the Cache Box and his V-STROM and of course the rider in the photo . We want to meet and greet folks here , so give us all the scoop . If the Cache Box Tag is hand passed , a photo of both riders is best . We'd like to see the connection . Post up a trip report with details of trip , photos and anything else you Cache Box Tag . Or simply post up a planned trip in the forum here and see who all we can get lined up to pass it on to .

(2) The other , but less prefered method .... Pretty much Geocacheing is it . You'll need to hide it somewhere where the general public cannot easily find it . It will need to go somewhere where any style rider can go . Not everyone is Stromin' Nromin' and can take a Strom up the side of Mount Rushmore with lunch in his hand . You can do that along the way though of course . We want the Cache Box Tag to be easliy acquired by all who ride a STROM and want to play . Again , your bike needs to be in the photo and if all possible , we'd like to see a photo of you . NO FILE PHOTOS . The Cache Box and TAG needs to be in the photo as well . If you go scuba diving and want to pass it under water , fine , just also add a photo of your bike and or bikes at the docks or something .
If you stash the Cache Box Tag , we NEED specific info . None of this guessing game stuff on this one guys . Get exact directions to the site from major intersections within a zip code and town . Post a photo of the exact location . Pretty much spell it out .
The reason we want to eliminate the guessing game here is multifold . One , if you happen to be on your Strom in a mixed bike tour and realize you are going to go within a few miles of the Cache , we don't want you holding up your tour buds on their cruisers while digging around in the middle of the Dead Sea with a metal detector . Let's do all we can to dierct folks to it .
I suppose the biggest reason we want to spell out the Cache locations are so we can keep it moving as fast as we can , and as ' far ' as we can of course , so all can have a shot at it in time .

That's pretty much the rules and the objective all wrapped into one big roll . ONE BIG RULE THOUGH . Please don't acquire the Cache in January , knowing you have a trip planned in June and hold it in your sock drawer for six months so you can have the coolest locate of us all . Keep this thing moving . You may never know when it might come back around to you .
In fact , I think we should go ahead and impose a 72 hour hold on an acquired Cache Box Tag before you need to start moving it . If you have some amazing trip planned in 73 hours , let us all know and we can toss it up and see how everyone feels about you holding it past the 72 hours .
If you have the tag on a tour , you need to be set up to post your trip report at least every 48 hours but we prefer a daily report of the movement of the Cache Box Tag . Hec , if that seems to hard , just say so . It is all just to keep it moving .
Let's play , let's learn and let's meet and greet . Historical places , wonders of the world , natural environment ... etc... etc... etc.. is what and where we would like to see this Cache Box Tag go .

OK , one more small piece of business here before I do my post and report of the Cache Box Tag for today .

I figure we need a couple of guys to sort of moderate this a little but and help keep track of folks and things . I am looking to help with this for sure and have asked Ridge Runner to help me as well . So here in the USA it looks like the two of us .

Now , don't forget , this is a Canada and a USA based game , so we would like for our brothers from the North to pick amongst you which two guys can help this game when it comes to Canada . Just remember , we need DEDICATED STROMMERS to work on this thing . If you are planning on trading your Strom in for a Scooter in spring , you may not be the best pick .
You are Canadians . You are smart and you are tough , so pick us two meatheads so you are ready when time comes . And doesn't have to be just fellas , you ladies have plenty to offer as well .

This ought to be a good and really fun game , SO LET'S GO !!!!! , Wes..aka..PO-SLOKE

Its in Ronnies (Bruno) hands now.

3 of us rode Swany300(Jerry), Jim and myself to Rancho Cucamonga California yesterday to handoff the Vstrom Cache.
We left Vegas at 7:00am, and because of the short fuel range of the Suzuki Boulevard 130 miles, we did 2 fuel stops on the way Primm and Barstow.
Arrived in Rancho Cucamonga at 11:00am, getting off the 15 right behind ronnie (Bruno) who we were meeting.

We ate lunch and BSed for 2 hours.

While doing the handoff.

On the way home we decided to get off the 15 (people starting to get a little aggressive driving) and Broke off at Baker around through the Mohave National Park and around by Kelso and stopped at Nipton to pick up some Lotto Tickets maybe I'll be 212 million richer on March 3rd, If I win everyone has to come out for the party

Here are pics of the prizes in the Cache, ScottG left me a mini pocket knife

And I put in a $1.00 Table Toke and a Orange County Chopper HotWheel, no V-stroms yet!!!!

We hit a couple of pockets of nasty wind at Baker and Glen Helen, but got through it riding down the road leaning like you are cornering.
Talk about pucker factor!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great ride 517 miles total doorstep to doorstep
If it ever gets close to Vegas again and needs to be picked up I'll take it again.
I met 2 nice guys through the Cache and would do it anytime again

Mike

it just doesn't seem right seeing GREEN vegetation and leaves on trees. A group of us took a ride yesterday here in Utah with ScottG who passed it off to Vegashotwheeler. We were thinking about you guys as we rode in 40 degree temps here in Northern Utah! We had a great day, but we wished we could have been riding in So Cal weather, hanging out with you guys, and eating In-N-Out burgers!

Nice job, Stromtroopers! Just over 3 months to pass this cache from an east coast state to a west coast state. Eight troopers have carried it and many more friends have been involved. I think the Utah guys drew the largest gathering for a pass. Can't wait to see where it goes next and when I might be able to get in on the fun!

Safe travels!

Who's next?

That is the question now. When and where. To all of you in California, this is the call to pass the cache and keep it traveling.
Here are a few more picts from Mike.
btw the Custom made Vstrom cacher sticker from Mike and Jerry looks really sharp on my windshield. Feels special to have it!
So who's next?

Hopefully I wont be the last one! Stromtroopers are not rushing to take it away from me. Let's hope that with the weather warming up, more will be willing to take their baby out for a ride;-) Maybe I'll bring it back to you and plan a 2/3 day trip to Death valley/Vegas in April?
By the way Mike there is one farkle you should get...the matstad brackets. it does an awesome job with the Givi, especially when you ride in heavy wind.

#172 ·
#173 ·
What other farkle? Thought you had them all!
so far DV in April sounds like a plan. I've been wanting to see it during Springtime. will make for a nice photo op. Just need to check if there are no other plan. looks like I am going to put more miles on the Wee in the coming months:)
The cache may go back to sin city if no other stromer wants it! Hellooo!!!!!

#174 ·
Anyone helping you yet Ronnie?????
Mike

#175 ·
No volunteer yet for the hand off so I am thinking of going to Death valley in April and maybe hand it over back to you just in case we do need to keep it moving. Meeting again is a good idea anyway and that's what the cache is for! I've checked www.desertusa.com and there are a lots of nice looking trails through Deathvalley such as Titus canyon. I am sure you know them. The strom would do a great job out there.
In a couple of weeks I will go through Anza-Borrego State park and will posts picts. Lots of exciting trails, old mines and ghost towns... yeaaa!

Ronnie has it in Cali, but problems getting anyone interested in.
He may meet My2Wheels in Goldpoint and hand it back to me.
Then I will try and get it out to someone else.
Mike

Yep it's still with me. I will post another loud message later today. I was thinking I could get a couple of very cute girlfriends of mine to join me on that quest for the next handoff...just to make the scene more appealing to those dogs out there:) Otherwise meeting with Mike and the My2wheels gang in Goldpoint sounds good and I am still considering the option seriously.

Last Location Post #176

I thought I read there were riders interested in getting it to the NorthWest. I can bridge the gap and get it to NorCal. Ronnie PM me with your suggestion.

Since there is a lot of communication please list the Last Location Post #??? everytime you post. This should keep interest higher when the reader can simply find the last location.

How about we meet half way between LA and Sacramento?

I am also planning on meeting the My2Wheels group in Death valley next month. And would send the cache back to Utah. I wont be able to do both in April. Wife , kids, Spring break...etc You know;-)
Not sure I understand the last location post issue...

Where will you buy your bike? I'll be out of town on Saturday but we could arrange to meet on Sunday if you are still around. Let me know

#186 ·
Hi

Well, there is a bike in Fontana, one in Pismo Beach and one in Sacremento, so at this stage I have no idea which one. I am still waiting on good photos from Fontana, if that does not happen before I leave/arrive I will skip it and head north on a bus.

I will update on my blog as I may have no time to log in here, in fact I may not even have connection?

It could still happen, but bank on another maybe as you have lots of them.

Cheers
TS

What bike are u buying? A Strom I suppose... Good luck to you and feel free to post again. Never know, you may go back home with the cache;-)

OK Guys ,
I suppose I owe a grand apology for not being in here and helping out with the logistics and cheering on of the Cache . Things got really weird for me for the last several months and seem to possibly be ironing out a bit .
I started this Cache/Tag thing with the full intention of keeping it all updated and all that good hoopla . I again , aplogize for being a slacker . All of you have been stellar Troopers trying to keep the game alive . Actually , I feel like there are tons of interested people but winter months and the low value of a dollar has been strict on most of us . To those if you that have not suffered the financial crunch my hat is off to you . To you that have suffered it and are still amongst the head barely above water oxygen users , you have my enduring amdiration .
The interest in this game is well above and beyond what I ever expected , even with a few slow downs here and there . Maybe with spring approaching rapidly , we will acrue more lurkers which in hope will birth more Strommers to get involved .
It appears that Ronnie has the Cache in Los Angeles . How awesome is that . It made it from coast to coast in less then a year . Let's all give ourselves and our fellow riders who kept it moving , best that could , a BIG OL' HONKIN KUDOS .
I got my stickers for the game today that Vegashotwheeler sent me . They are perfect and my hat is off to him and his efforts . I have not checked in to see if adv_family has kept the Google map updated or not . Hopefully he has and if not , maybe we could all pull together to get him back involved . There are allot fo creative things this bunch could drum up so let's all pull together for the sake of riding and reder fellowship . A guy just can't make enough friends as it is , much less riders friends .

Thanks tons for the brotherhood , Wes

#189 ·
Hey Guys ! How about a roll call from everyone that has carried the Tag , is looking to carry the Tag , and or is simply lurking . I'd like to really get a good show of hands here .

God bless , Wes

#190 ·
Welcome back PO-SLOKE;-) Yep, I feel the crunch but who does not these days...But hey not dead yet, so let's get this cache moving. After checking in with wife and family obligations I am probably not going to be able to go away for more than a short week-end this month. My best bet would be to bring it up North somewhere along the coast. if anyone is interested, let me know:)
Cheers you all!

PS. Roll call...sorry but I am not familiar with these words in this context. Can u explain? Thxs

#191 ·
Hi PO-SLOKE!!

I'm still here, and the map is updated! Here's a current URL for the latest version of the map:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...270836,-99.667969&spn=42.507524,93.164063&z=4

I'm slowly cookin' up plans to ride out to the Four Corners area this summer with my cousin and fellow Strommer, perhaps in June. I'd love to be able to pick up the cache if it's anywhere near our route, but chances are it won't be. As soon as I get more definite permissions here, I was planning to post a note about my ride and see if anyone had suggestions for places to visit on the way out, or in the Four Corners area. Or if there was anyone that wanted to meet up and ride for a while. But I'll go ahead and post the idea here and maybe the thoughts of an adventurous ride might stir others to action. Or if nothing else, I might get another thread going about riding across the country.

Thanks!

Don

There are some Strommers up here in Washington that would be able to pass it around.

Two of us are willing to do a Seattle to Oregon leg if need be. Hell, I'll go to NorCal if I can arrange it to coincide with my SS1000 run this summer.

#203 ·
Tell me where and when is best for you and I'll take it from there;-)

Be safe;-)

Anza Borrego state park

Tomorrow with a friend I will ride the Anza Borrego State park. How about someone meeting with us in Indio or Borrego Spring? It's going to be a beautiful and warm day. Anza Borrego is a great place for the Strom. Lot's of dirt roads.
Anyone?

#207 ·
Hey Ronnie, any takers yet??????
Mike

#208 ·
Nop...besides you;-) I wish someone would be willing to help take it up north. But so far, I still have it and it might head back your way if no one is interested. Anyway there is not much I can plan before May now.
