Sounds like a great ride.
I was the membership coordinator for the DSMRA for about 5 years, back in 2006 I think.
Good to see they are doing rides for ADV bikes.

Gday GdeR, YEAH AGREE THE SUSPENSION NEEDS A WORK OVER , I HAVE OWNED 2 650s and my current 2009 model has an Ohlins Shock and heavier fork springs, biggest improvement to the 650 is the 4 piston front caliper upgrade. Never ridden a 1k so dont know what the brakes are like
Any Stom is never gunna be a true Adv bike, but take it for what it is and modify it to your taste and they a great go most places bike. I sold my 04 model after 50K and doing a bit of single track and bought a Dr 650, boy did i miss the comfort of the Wee on long tar road trips only had the DR for 8 months and sold it to get the current bike. Had it for 8 years now and still enjoy jumping onit to explore down the South Coast.

|GerardDeR||Sounds like a few other southern strom-owning n-s welshmen here (ok, am ACT - can we take that as counting?). I'm a four month owner of an L4 (ie 2014 1000). And off on a two day adv ride with other dsmra guys 18019 May out Forbes way. Shld be good. I've done a few adv/offroad rides on the bike now, and done quite a few mods, and think it now works fine with a steady hand and good line selection. Suspension not great tho - am awaiting return of gold valved forks from shock treatment now, and will do the shock in a few months time. Bit by bit am making it work as a proper adventure bike. Won't rival a 990 or any of the others, but chose it also for its ability to do comfy long distance road work. Happy to share idea, mods, and to mebbe meet and ride sometime. Or even if you need overnite digs in canberra (in the rare event of you visiting) - feel free to ask.|

Yes did the river road from Neligan through shallow crossing to Miton, good ride.
Back in about 1991,I got pinged on the dips just south of Burrill lake.
Guzzi Monza 500, first 126kms, second 116kms.
Guy asked me you dropped the speed hey.
Answer, yep mate as soon as I seen you.
He had a laugh and dropped the fine from $130 to $80.
Then told me his mate was down the road, so don't go off with the shits and speed again.
True to his word, 2kms down the road was another hwy Patrol.
Was not good telling Leanne I got fined.

yeah the blue lights love sitting in a discreet spot in the 80 zone. last few weeks have seen Commodore, BMW and Chrysler 300 lurking. I also saw a FJR blue lighter over Easter which are very rare down this way.
Have you done the mainly dirt road from Milton that goes down to the Kings Hway, a few different routes including Shallow Crossing,runs parallel to the Princes Hway, all very doable on a Vstrom.

Yep stayed at the caravan park, you live in an great part of the world.
Plenty of dirt roads, just drop down to 80kms as the blue lights love the place.
