Gert That is interesting. For info, would you mind posting the link so that I can read more about the process followed? I would imagine that it is not as straight forward as just blanking off the extra spark plug port. I'm not sure how the K6 wiring harness connectors pin layout and wiring will match up to the L1 engine connectors.
When / if upgrading to the K7 - L1 motor, there are a few new sensors that I should have included in my #2 reply, that come into play which are not used on the K4 - K6 bikes. The idle setting for one, on the K7 - L1 is under control of the ECU plus there is a sensor on the exhaust vs the K6 idle which is set via the idle screw.

So basically, while a complete new K7 - L1 engine may fit 99.99% of the mounting holes, a 32 bit harness, new dual plug coils, 32 bit ECU would be considered minimum to get the job done. To clarify model codes, 2004 = K4 while 2011 = L1.
This is great information I should have read for myself. But another user via pm told me that he had completed a swap and just left the extra set of sparkplugs disconnected.

However, the ECU information doesn't make sense and I am going to do some more research. I hope to buy that perfect match from that other kind user of this form, but if that doesn't work out thanks for stearing me in the right direction.

I am not able to directly reply to that thread because my account has two few posts.
But I messaged the user directly. That is a fantastic deal given I have been looking at 900+ offerings on eBay with twice the miles and lots of wear.

2006 650 DL needs new engine, cross-compatible w/ 07-11?

Has anyone ever used a 2007-2011 engine on the 2006 Model year?

I can't find any differences in the service manual and some sellers have them listed as cross-compatible, some don't.:

Listed as cross-compatible:
I can't post links so the explict name of the post on ebay is:
11 Suzuki VStrom 650 DL Engine Motor GUARANTEED
by the seller: suncoastcyclesports

Not listed as cross-compatible:
ENGINE GUARANTEED SUZUKI V-STROM 650 DL 2004 2006
by the seller: mauroricambisas

As you can see the only link that is explicitly compatible is the last one. It is also far more expensive and the only one listed as from the same model year. Please don't buy it though haha, I might want it.

As for why I need I new engine... Lets say I learned some important expensive lessons recently.

Thank you to anyone that takes the time to provide any amount of insight.
