Whenever I add accessories or aftermarket stuff to my electrical systems I always snip the ring terminal to change it from a "O" to a "C"
It does not matter if I have it under the battery bolts, the solenoid bolt or as in the case with my BMW under the starter motor bolt I snip the ring so it can be more easily removed should the need arise.
Just loosen things off and slip it out, reverse the procedure to put it back.

I only use Battery Tender Pluses for my 3 motorcycles. I have them all wired in the manner I described with one exception--my '14 DL1K has the Tender positive eyelet under the battery positive cable--for now. At the time, I didnt want to grind away a portion of the starter relay's plastic cover. That will be remedied soon--I just forgot about it after all this time! My CB750K, ZRX1100, my son's SV650, a friend's Vstrom650 and many others Ive wired this way.
I feed the harness plug through the bodywork and black plastic wire-tie it to the rear brake fluid reservoir hose behind the rear frame section. Unobtrusive, easy access when on the side stand, and I use the plug not only for tending/charging, but also to run a small air compressor I keep on the bike and for checking charging status.
I use a Tender Plus for each bike, although I could have bout a multibank model. Reason is, if the bultibank goes down, I may not be able to charge any of the bikes. I have all 3 plugged into a switched power strip on a garage wall stud, and each Tender is on a shelf made of a piece of 2" X 4" between the wall studs, plastic wire-tied in place. Wach Tender has a 12' BT extension cable, with the excess looped on bicycle hooks screwed into the underside of the shelves supporting the Tenders.
The gal from Deltran--BT's parent company, she knows EVERYTHING about their Tenders-- made it clear to me that the bike is to be on the Tender every time it's parked in the garage. She said the mistake people make with their product is that they only use the Tender for a short time before a ride.
I generally get 6-8 years out of a battery using these Tenders this way.
Also, their support is EXCELLENT. The Tenders have a 5-year warranty. After 5 years, you pay $10.90, they'll send you a brand new one. This price may or may not apply to the Plus, but Ive sent in 3 Battery Tender Jr.'s through the years and got new ones in the mail.
The Jr. is rated at .75A, the plus is rated at 1.25A. The safest bet is to use a Tender rated at 1/10th the amp-hour rating of the battery. I use the Jr. for the battery in my riding mower,my brother's John Deere Garden Tractor, and my friend's DL650 Vstrom.
As per the '18 Yuasa Battery Applications and Specifications manual, The '14 Vstrom1000 battery is rated at 12 amp-hours, close enough to the 1.25A output of the plus. The '14 Vstrom650 battery is rated at 10 amp-hours, so the Jr. is better suited to that application.

|Hogges||A healthy lead acid battery can easily hold very close to full charge for six months or more. If it doesn’t it’s time to get a new one. I bet more batteries have been damaged by overcharging from cheap tenders or trickle chargers than by prolonged self-discharge.|
