Boise Idaho July 15-18

I am looking to Idaho/Montana for this years ride. The Vstrom West Rally is going to be July 15-18 in Boise so I thought that would be incentive to get my ass out west and see some new country. I've got 17 days to get out there and back with some exploring in between like the Magruder Corridor, Beartooth Pass, part of the Continental Divide Trail etc. Most of my trips in the past have been solo but if anyone is interested in joining in just let me know.

I'm hoping to have time off for the Gathering, and it looks like your path from Massachusetts might bring to thru Salt Lake. Hell of a ride.

destination and date change

I have decided to make a change in my itinerary basically due to a more central location to the areas I want to ride in Montana and Idaho. The ADV Westfest will be held in Darby, Montana during the weekend of July 22-24. Darby is within easy access of the Magruder and Lolo Trails plus the Continental Divide Trail. I figure I can pass through Teton and Yellowstone on the way there and Glacier on the way home. If anyone is going to the ADV gathering from New England let me know.

ADV Westfest

I just got back from the ADV Westfest in Darby Montana held last weekend. 5,900 miles in 14 days with multiple highlights such as the flooded Missouri River, Badlands National Park, the Presidents, Needles Highway, Spotted Horse Wyoming with John Wayne, Fat Tire Beer, Sam Adams for $2.00 a bottle, Shoup Idaho from Painted Rocks Montana via Fire Roads, part of the Magruder Corridor (most of it is still closed because of 8 feet of snow in the high country), Livingston Montana, I-90 from Billings to Butte with 30 mph cross winds, Yellowstone NP, Grand Teton NP, Dubois Wyoming and finally miles and miles of corn. No rain for 14 days but plenty of days around the 100 degree area. I'm now in the market for a comfortable after-market seat since my ass is DOA.

Am opening my last can of Big Flats beer now. I picked it up in (?) Missouri on my way back from Ripon, California. Visited a brother there and one in Montrose, Colorado. 6838 miles in 18 days, with three days at one house, two at another, and two in the middle of a mesa on a dirt road in the rain. I caught a soaking rain six days on the trip. Outside of the visits with my brothers and a flight over the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, my highlight was a lot of solitude. The trip cooked my new rear Shinko. 90+ degree days and 80+ miles an hour made it tacky to the touch!
