Manic 5

Finally going to do this in August.
Does anyone know if it is all pavement from Baie Comeau to the Dam?
A friend is going to come along and is trying to figure out if he is going to rent a BMW or a Victory.

Yes - all paved from Baie Comeau to Manic 5. Its a fun twisty road too. When I was there a few years ago the gravel started just at Manic 5. I understand a lot more of the Trans Lab Hwy has been paved since then.

Over 200 km of twisty but rough road. Over 200 curves.

If you go there, dont miss a free guided tour. It take about 2 hrs.

If you have spare time I recommend you this detour on your route to or from Baie-Comeau (Route 381 is one of the best road in the Quebec:

Thanks for the great info.
We plan on doing 381. Paved?
What are your thoughts about 170 vs 172?
Are we going to wish we did 175?

172 is fun and in good condition. The last time I did the 170 is 25 years ago, I can't tell about the condition but I remember it is fun too. I plan to try it this summer.
If you like the twisties, maybe you would not like the 175, it is a higway now.
Otherwise it's not a bad idea if you dont want to do the 138 twice.
Another route would be Trois-Rivieres, then the 155.
