Good dealerships

Hello All Midwest Troopers...

I am looking for a good, HONEST, Suzuki Strom dealership that knows about the bike. Anyone have any suggestions for Missouri? I already have an 06 1000 and every dealer I have been to, once they find out I already have a bike they run off and act like they could care less about me. I guess they don't realize I could be there to buy other things, like aftermarket stuff. I am really amazed at their care less attitudes!

I've only ever looked at Stroms at two dealerships in the KC area. One is Advantage Powersports on Barry Rd. near I-29, and the other is Liberty Cycle, which is in Liberty, about two blocks north of the Hwy 152 intersection on Hwy 291. Since I haven't bought from either of these places, I can't tell you about the buying experience, but I do know a few things.

One, I know the guys who work in the building next door to the Advantage Powersports place, and they've both said they don't like the owners of that place and the way they handle business over there. They just said the owners are jerks. I can tell you from personal experience that I, as a novice rider who doesn't have a license and has never taken the MSF course, haven't ridden a bike since my 50CC moped when I was 14, I was told that any bike less than 1100CC would be too small for me. Granted, I'm a big guy (6'7", 350 lbs.), but even I know that a bike that big is way too much power for a newbie. They were trying to sell me on the DL1000, but the guy even said to me that it might not be big enough to carry my weight around. Seemed more interested in a sale than in my safety. I'm definitely not buying from them, ever.

About the Liberty Cycle place, I know that when my wife and I went in to browse bikes, not even a single salesman walked up to me to sell me a bike. Not sure if that's because they're untrained in sales or just really laid back, but I wasnt even approached. I don't know if that makes them a bad place to buy a bike, though. Much smaller place, too, and you may not find the accessories you need there.

So, I'm saying I can't give you a good suggestion, but I can steer you away from the bad ones I've encountered. If you find a good one, let us all know as I'll be in the market for a V-Strom sometime in summer 08.

I don't know where you are in Midwest but stay away from Bob Shultz in St. Charles , MO.
Chesterfield Valley Powersports seem to be OK but I got more information from a customer dropping his wee-strom off for mainteneance than I got from the "salesman".
J & W Cycles in Washington, MO have been great and I think their service department is a good bet too.
I have been a tire kicker for about a year now and I frequent these shops to get a feel for them and their loyalty. I never take up their time when they have money-in-hand buyers. I thought I might want a cruizer but I am really excited about the information I gaining on the V-Strom.
Hope this helps you are others.

good dealership in central illinois

I don't know how far you are willing to travel...but check out my thread in this same catagory under "good strom mechanic in central illinois". The folks at R&R Powersports in Effingham, Il. are tops in my book for sales and service.

I got my bike from Wayne at Inland Marine and Cycle in Hutchinson, KS. He is a very good, honest, person who will shoot you a straight deal and never lie to you about anything. The problem is I live about 4 hours away from the dealership right now so it's a bit of a trip to go and see him.

I would recommend him to anyone who wants a fair, honest deal and will stay with you for the life of the bike, not just sell you something and then never want to see you again. Wayne is also a very accomplished motorcycle mechanic himself. It's worth the drive or extra time to check him out. Here is his link..

Procycle in missouri (2 was under state litegation for misrep...etc...sales would REALLY low ball and (lie) to get you in.
I got my new v-strom for $6,500 otd(out the door)...and would only discuss otd pricing. I hate to be nickled to death. I also checked out the service dept. before going and buying.

Drinnon Cycle in West Plains MO will give you a great deal on a new bike, but their service dept. consists of one local kid who seems a little slow. Not very helpful.

I rode my bike in with 200 miles on it and asked them to take a listen to the engine. I'd never owned a V-twin before and was unfamiliar with the noises it makes. They didn't even want to step outside just to listen to it! Just stood behind the counter and shrugged, "Oh, that's normal". Finally I said "What if it's not normal. You guys will be rebuilding and engine!". The slow guy finally sauntered out and acted like I was an idiot when he told me it was normal. He wouldn't even explain to me what exactly made the noises, maybe he didn't know himself!

I won't take my bike there to be worked on, that's for sure!
