Sunday 7/23/06 Riding Northwest Illinois...

Will I be the only V-Strom??????

The Plan

Meeting at Dillars (East side of the road) in Richmond, IL on SR 12 just north of SR31.

Arrive about 7:00am, kick stands up at 08:00am.

Basically riding the "Best of the Northwest - Illinois"

I have been on several rides with this group, and there has not been a disapointing mile. I look forward to this Sunday and where they will lead me.

I am told Fun stuff starts around Winslow, IL and ends around Byron, IL, just touches the east side of Galena. (Don't wanna go into downtown Galena on a nice, sunny Sunday.) Mostly twisty, hilly backroads
Confirming the ride for Sunday. Meet at Dilar's on SR12 just north of
SR31 in Richmond at 7'ish. Kickstands up at 8ish.

The route suggested will have us hop across the boarder to head west. Dropping down around Warren, IL which is where the real fun stuff
starts. At this point, it's hills, sweepers and some nifty twisties.

Lunch is a possibility at Chestnut Mountain Resort. See how everyone
feels.

It looks like a good weather day, and I was hoping that I will not be the only V-Strom,

Come on out for a ride.........

Well, I might be able to make it.
My KLR is done and I'm trading some delicate TIG welding on some custom ATV pipes for the service he did on my KLR. If I have to pick it up on Saturday, I won't be able to make it for the ride..

If not, consider one more Black 1000 V-Strom to the mix.

I'll be down to the girlfriend's place, just outside of Caladonia, so I'll only be a half hour or so from your start location.

I just got home from working up in Rhinelander, WI all week, so I'll have a better idea tommorow..

Got the call.. I have to pick up my KLR tomorrow.. I'm also dropping off a few guns at my favorite gun shop to put on consignment.. Got my eye on new shooting stuff and need to pay for it..

Have a great ride, and don't forget to take Scenic Ridge Drive Highway 9 to Massbach Road Highway 10.. Scenic Drive heads out of the top of the hill, above Savannah and it takes you up to just west of Stockton.. SAWEEET road.. curve curve curve

Your suggestion is noted and appreciated.

I am riding with a group that is a lot of fun. They know the area and have a route planned...My plan is to just follow the tails lights in front of me.

Bang Bang enjoy your weekend,

Yep I was the only V-Strom

Just a quick summary of the day.

Nine riders showed up at 7: for breakfast, A good variety of bike was represented, including a young rider on a Suzuki Bergman. He was a little woried about slowing us down, which turned out not to be a problem. He cruised along with us the whole way out to Galena.

The ride mentor today was Paul who must have spent many hours in this part of the world as we twisted our way for 3 1/2 hours getting to Gelena and Chestnut Mountain Ski resort about 11:30. My GPS pointed in all four directions as we wound our way westward.

Once we arrived at Chestnut Mountain some of us rode the Alpine Slide, look at the view from the top of the ski hill and then went in for lunch.

Lunch was an interesting gathering. This ride was suggested by someone from the HSTA group, I posted up here and on the other forum I take part in Sport-Touring.net. We met up with riders from Iowa, and two from Chicago who saw one of the posts. Actually two guys from the Chicago BMW club, one who lurks on the ST.n site. There was 17 riders in all.

After lunch the gruop broke up as peoples plans took them there own ways. I stuck with Paul who ride was to take us on more great roads and end up in Byron Illinois. I got a taste of my first gravel road as Illinoi had a big section gravel over. It should be great in the future.

I peeled away from the group at route 72 and rt 2, making the misake of taking the tollway home.

Anyway it was perfect weather and great roads.

Hope to see you on the next one.....

We start from Chicago @ 8;00 am and arrive to Dillard's in Richmond around 9;30 am ..Some coffee for us and Gas for our stroms it was about 10:00 am and we start riding on Tyron Grove Rd( awesome road BTW)
Then we took RT 23 south to RT 20 and headed west to Rockford ..We eat some stakes and headed to Byron on Rt 2 ( goes along with the Rock River ( another awesome road) ..Then we hit on Rt 72 to go back to chicago and somehow we and it up on Rt 64  (I need a GPS) wich was a mistake but we learn not to take 64 again ...
