Tarmac ride out of Madison Area...

I'm kind of sick of riding alone, so I figured I'd ask if anyone is interested in doing a day ride out of the Madison Area. A favorite loop of mine is to head west on 14, north on 80 then over on 33 through wildcat mountain area and then just find my way home by avoiding all federal highways.

Riding the south rim of Devils Lake state park is also nice, as is the highway from merrimac to portage..70 something?

Anyway, I'm gauging interest in a ride 5-6 hour ride some Saturday or Sunday morning in the next couple of weeks.

I usually ride "the pace" but on roads with rocks/loose gravel I've been taking it really easy, so I don't expect this ride to be slow as molasses, but there won't be much need for adrenaline either.

Post here with interest and suggest a date: 7/31, 8/1, 8/7 or 8/8.

Basso; I'm in Minneapolis, but if you want to MITM and explore some nice Saturday I would be game. 7/31 is out, as is 8/7, but 8/14 and 8/21 both work.

I was just up to Tomah for the Concours National Rally. Good time and great cycle roads in the SW quadrant of the state. I lived in LaCrosse in the early 60's and was involved in sports car activities at the time. The roads were equally good for sporty cars. As you know, you need to watch for gravel on the inside lane of the curves (one of the rally participants went down on one) and, in some areas where there a lot of Amish folks, horse manure in others.

If you are looking for someplace for a good meal -- we found that the Badger Crossing in Cashton was excellent.

Ride safe.

I would be interested in something like that. I play up that way on occasion.

I was just in Wildcat park last weekend of a ride with some FJR guys. There was a lot of corners with loose gravel. I ride the Boscobel, Richland Center areas a lot...beautiful riding up there. I am headed to Chicago Saturday to look at a Strom and hopefully be riding it home. I would be interested in joining in some time.
