Twistar 2006 quick event report....

I attended this years Twistar event.

This was an AMA sponsored rally, put on by the Honda owners club "HSTA". You needed to join the club in order to be in the ralley. Even with joining the event only cost $35.00. This included the after ride dinner.

There were 61 motorcycles that attended.

I met Steven (Santa) Kirkendoll, of Draggin' Parts Videos. He was riding a Wee Strom, blue with red and yellow hot rod flames. He also had dragon eyes air brushed on the back of his mirrors. This gentleman is somewhat famous for chasing sport bikes through places like Deals Gap, filming as he goes. His wind screen is modified to have a camera sticking through, as well as mounted on the side of his fairing.

They provided a GPS file to upload the route to my Garmin which was a very good touch. No guessing if you where still on route.

After a lite breakfast the group I rode with left a little after 9:00 am, ten riders three had communication set ups. This turned out to be a good thing as when we stopped for lunch I was told that we were followed by county sheriff for a 20 mile period. I never noticed as the leader at the time was alerted by the trialing rider, he adjusted our speed and we just continues on with no problems.

The route itself was incredible, there was no time lost getting from twisty part to twisty part. The curves and twists just kept coming and coming.

With the prearranged gas stops and an pre-arranged lunch stop we were able to see other groups, through out the day. After lunch I was able to keep up with our group leaders for about an hour when I noticed my concentration waning as was getting worn-out. My slowing down did not seem to bother anyone, as the group was waiting at every decision making point. Our sweep rider, riding an ST1300 is an MSF instructor and brought up the rear all day long.

Yes I am stating this again, the route itself was incredible, there was no time lost getting from twisty part to twisty part. The curves and twists just kept coming and coming.

When we got back to the hotel at 5:30 pm, I had just over 350 miles on the trip odometer, and I was thoroughly exhausted. Keeping in mind that this is only my second season of serious riding, I have to say that it was my best day on two wheels.

This was my first organized rally experience and I was very impressed. There did not seem to be anyone complaining about anything.

The buffet dinner was well laid out with an abundance and variety of tastey food. There was a door prize for 45 out of the 61 in attendance. Books, shirts cleaning products, I won a hat and tire plug kit from "Stop and Go"

I added 717 miles this weekend, met some new friends, rode some incredible roads and have a route to return to when ever I please. How can you top that for a 3 day experience?

3 miles on p/u 4/22/06 55,700 as of 6/14/09 and climbing..
