Wanna try a Road Rally (Mini Iron Butt Rally)???

If you're interested in trying a road rally, or getting a feel for what those Iron Butt Rally guys do, without getting an actual sore butt, I'd like to suggest this... Oh, and it's only 13 hours long, so you can even sleep at night.

http://www.glmc.org/bonzai.html

The rally is held in Monroe, Wi and is put on by the Glacial Lakes MC club out of South Dakota (they like the roads around here, better than out there  )

Anyway, check out the site for every question you've ever had about road rallies.. They're basically a scavenger hunt on a motorcycle.. It's held during the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, so you have a day to ride to and from the rally.

There's only 25 spots left (as of today) and it will fill up, so if you'r interested, get at it ASAP.. I'm rider #11 on the list of riders, and will be there on my 05 Strom.. I rode it last year and won my class (funky) on my KLR650, so as they mention, any bike is up to the challenge.

It's a blast, you'll meet some of the REAL Iron Butt Rally riders, you get fed a couple times, a cool t-shirt, and a great day of riding all over the IL/WI/IA/MN area, and you might take home a trophy..

Rookies are encouraged (because you'll quickly become addicted to more of this type of riding) and you'll also get plenty o' help on what to do, expect, and need to bring..

Either that, or go sit next to a lake, fishing on that weekend.. Which sound fun, too...

Just thought I'd toss this into the mix, one more time..
Still a few openings.. I know of 2 that are filled since last list update..

I'll do my best to post some pics of the event. The bike set-ups are always interesting.. Fuel cells, GPS's, sat radios, etc...

I didn't place high enough for a plaque, but my rookie riding partner did with a 3rd place.
We ended up with just short of 12,000 points and 400 miles.

I'll post all the results as soon as they're listed on the glmc site..

Got on some great roads and, other than it was mid 90's and super humid, it was a blast!!

One new twist was that everyone had to take thier driver's license and seal it in an envelope, and then put it with the rest of your bonus envelope.. If the envelope seal was broken (AKA-speeding ticket) you lost 5000 points.

One rider didn't make it 10 miles before starting his day 5000 points in the hole.. I also saw another rider on WI highway 18 with a familiar rally shirt, waving at me as his bike was parked in front of a state trooper's car, lights flashing in full glory..

Can't wait for next year's rally!!
