Question Riding Across the States

This July (next month) I'm planning a ride from San Francisco, CA to Chicago, IL. My plan is to take 80 East out of SF and go where I need to in order to get the most out of the ride. I'm looking to take about two weeks at the most. I'd love to hear any recommendations for roads to take along the way. Any MUST sees? Any MUST avoids? Any warnings, recommendations, tips, etc. are welcome.

I for one would get off the Interstate. I know you don't have much time or would tell you a ton of roads to take in Utah and Colorado. I would at least get off I 80 at Salt Lake City, Utah and take 40 east through Utah and Co. In Co my first choice would be to take 14 just east of Steamboat Sprigs over to I 25. My second choice would be to take 34 at Granby, Co and go up through Rocky Mt National Park to I 25. The only reason I put them in that order is I think 14 would be faster. It would be a shame to be that close to those states and not do some of the roads. I think I have rode almost all the roads in Co and I live in In. Was in your area in May of last year and everything in between that I could. Have a safe trip.

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow.

Smile Thanks!

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I agree with you, it would be a waste to drive past all these great things at 80 mph on an interstate. Part of the reason that I'm riding across is to see this stuff. If I didn't want to see it I'd fly. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If you have the time you might consider going past Salt Lake City on I 80 to around James Town where you can catch 191 south to 40. I know it's out of the way, but 191 is a nice road and 40 from Salt L C over into Co is kinda dead.

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks again. I'm going to look at all the suggested highways on a map and figure out the best route to hit where people are suggesting so this helps me a lot.
