LED brake/tail light bulbs

Looking for opinions on 1157 LED bulbs. These are direct replacement bulbs for conventional 1157 bulbs, no alterations to existing wiring. According to the specs they draw less current than incandescent bulbs and should be much brighter. Since they will still be illuminating the standard reflector and red lens I wonder if there is a big difference. Anyone have any firsthand knowledge on this?

Of course this is the thing. Anytime you just put an LED bulb (multiple point light source) in a housing made for a single point light source like an incandescent bulb you get crappy light output... usually a lot of scatter and a much less effective beam where you want it. For turn signals and tail lights this may or may not be acceptable. For a headlight, in my opinion, it's always a bad idea. And this is why when traveling on night time roads these days we get blinded by about every 3-4 cars...
The bulbs are cheap enough you could buy one and try it compared to your OEM bulb.

I detailed my choices of LED lamps in this topic. I chose the bulbs I did for the tail light because they are essentially omnidirectional. https://www.stromtrooper.com/showthread.php?t=411234

On a tail light. I would recommend a high quality LED bulb replacement. Places like SuperBrightLEDs.com. With the tail light look for a LED tower that is the same size as the 1157 is around on the globe. On that web-site they usually have the size of the tower length width ect... Then look to see how deep the tail housing is. You can probally get a taller tower and a brighter bulb. You also need to match the color of the bulb with the housing. Ebay has some intergrated tail lights but beware some are cheap and cannot see them as good.

i used the slections listed in the above thread..... directional bulbs will flash fast (hyper blinking) but can be easly fixed with a new relay.....

I was just thinking of the advantages of a brighter tail and brake light, not really concerned with the turn signals, they don't get as much action. Anyway my store, (O'Reilly), has them pretty cheap, so as long as there's no downside I'll plug one in and see how it looks.
