Exclamation Warning! Black Widow Exhausts - DL650

I have a 2010 DL650 and I am currently undergoing a very expensive ballache because I bought a Black Widow full system and it does not fit the bike. I've got a video on it which I can't link as I'm too much of a greenhorn here but the long story short:

I went to a garage for fitting it as my lambda was seized into the stock and the stock generally was going nowhere fast. However when they got it off and we went to fit the Widow it was nowhere close. The closest they could get the main hanging bolt to where it needs to bolt into was about 2.5-3 inches out, and to get it there the rest of the pipes were hitting the frame and would have been interfering with the underside of the rear brake pedal's spring. Bare in mind too this garage is also a custom bike shop. Among the many mechanics I had working on the bike at various points was the garage owner, currently rebuilding a custom chopper, and a guy who just build his own V-Twin full system from the ground up, so it's definitely not user error here.

Maybe I got unlucky and had a dud pipe, or maybe it only fits the newer body style of bike as that's the one they have pictures of on the advert (system claims 2004-2016). Either way, don't risk it! I've also found a few horror stories from friends by digging deeper (exploding cans on MTs for example) but I want to keep this Strom-specific.

In full disclosure, I have been refunded the price of the system, but I've still been left badly out of pocket by the whole saga due to the garage costs and public transport getting the exhaust box from my house to the garage, back home, and then out to the courier dropoff. More than that I've been left disheartened by the whole thing, as there doesn't appear to be any immediate competition for the Widow in my price bracket that has the look I wanted, so I'm resigned to be stuck with the stock can. While it sounds reasonable by stock standards, it's still a stock can and definitely a step backwards from my previous bike's Fuel end-can.

Through seeing other posts on here people have been fine with the DL1000 version, so who knows. Make your own call there, but do it from an informed perspective now. Further details can be found on my Youtube channel, find me under the same name there, though be prepared for some.. 'miffed language'.

Ride safe!

Bought a Black Widow system for my ZRX a couple months ago. All the pipes were mis-labeled. It was quite the "jigsaw puzzle" and cost me probably a couple extra hours to install. All I got was a "sorry, have a good day".

I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN!

I too have a ZRX with a Black Widow exhaust and it fits perfectly, I'm very happy with it .. are you liking it other than the mistake they made with labeling? It's not like it's hard to work out what goes where ...

Problems like this with inconsistency in delivering a quality product is usually caused by a lack of
Quality control personnel or lack of Quality control of any kind. You should be able to return
any item like this if it does not fit. Many times it is a buyer beware world out there for us motorcycle
guys.

They get a bad rep in the UK also..... many forums point out how misfitting the pipes etc are and the customer service stinks

Delkevic exhausts seem to have a better reputation, if you're looking for something a bit more budget friendly.
