Replacement Battery

It's getting towards the time for me to replace my battery on my Super Tenere. I realize it's not a V-Strom, but I decided to cash in on the expertise of the members of this forum.

I'm looking at a YTZ14S battery. The Yuasa ranges anywhere from $150.00 to $200.00 range. Can anyone here recommend one of the aftermarket battery makers that produce motorcycle batteries that are a decent alternative to the Yuasa? The Mighty Max that I've seen seems to be one of the cheaper ones, and has the advantage of being available locally, but I've never used one and don't have any experience with them.

Any suggestions?

O'Reilly auto parts carries an AGM line that is fully sealed, ready to install with no charging. It's a bit heavier, but very reliable. Priced in the $80 range.

Shorai....have them on both bikes - here and Australia....amazing crank power and the charge stays up for months without top up.

Just get the correct one. 3 year warranty. Got my unit in Australia in Feb 2014 and still working perfectly. Buddy who takes care of the KLR650 in Australia is very impressed with it. Due to the heat I used to go through a regular battery every year.

Cold blooded CBF1000 in Canada cranks like its summertime even in current temps.

I always buy Deka AGM batteries for Tri-State

I've got the ETX12 Deka in my 2012 650.

ETX12 Deka PowerSport Battery

Kind to have to hunt around for battery cross references.
I had to cross reference a Yuasa YTX12-BS to find a Deka equivalent.

I've used Deka batteries in bikes for years never had one fail and they are enthusiastic crankers! Tri-State has good pricing and free shipping. I don't have an affiliation just a satisfied customer.

Another site to check prices and availability on is Battery Mart dot Com. I have used their Big Crank line of AGM batteries on several bikes I have had over the years.

Well, circumstances forced my hand this morning, as Mr. Yuasa shuffled off this mortal coil. I stopped at O'Reilly Auto to pick up some oil for an oil change, and ended up buying their house brand of YTZ14S (a Super Start Platinum). Same weight and dimensions as the Yuasa YTZ14S, same AH rating (11.2), but 210 CCA rather than the 230 CCA of the Yuasa. That's the same CCA as the OEM Yuasa YTZ12S. But it was there, and handy, and it had a 12 month warranty, so I opted to give their house brand a chance. It was $103.99.

I appreciate the responses from you all, and I'll keep the info handy in my manual for the next time around. Thanks to everyone.

Yeah, it's a bother. The battery in my 04 Wee was many years old and i didn't see until I got a replacement that it was a WalMart battery.
Next time I need a battery, I'm going to check there first.

I bought one of these several months ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works great, solid unit. Has a voltmeter built into it, including an audible alarm when voltage drops too low. Seems like a good deal for $30. Will let you know.
