Bar mounted Aux, charger

Looking for a USB and 12 volt charger for the DL1000. Anyone find a durable one of these. There all over fleebay and all over pricing. Don't mind paying just don't want junk.

I was intending to put in a 12v. + USB on the bars or in the front faring. There are several made for it but durability is always an issue when you can't really see it before you buy it. May have to take a run to a bike shops in Ottawa to get a hands on look. I know some have used 12v outlets made for bed liners for trucks and the like but a few have been made bike specific. There's a line ran for the GPS which is now obsolete, so I will most likely use the wiring that has been installed to power an outlet.

I have two of those truck bed outlets mounted on my bike. They have a weatherproof spring loaded lid, and I have them mounted to the handlebar clamps with a couple of homemade aluminum brackets. They came from O'Reilly Auto parts, and were something like 12 bucks each back when I got them. They've been on two different bikes now for the past five years, still going strong. They may have been sold under the name of Casco, but I believe they're just Chinese imports that are rebranded under various manufacturers' names. They're both on 15 amp circuits, so they can run something like an air compressor.

I also have two 3.1 amp USB outlets mounted on an accessory shelf. They're made by MotoPower. They're rubberized and have a watertight cover that fits over the outlet when not in use. They've been on the bike for a year, and work really well. These are the ones I have installed:

MotoPower also makes a bar mounted version that includes both a USB charger and a 12 volt standard cigarette style outlet. This is a link to the item on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/MOTOPOWER-MP0...ords=motopower

This is what it looks like:

I went with Powerlet Products. I have both a powerlet socket and a standard cigar/cigarette socket. I throw an adapter in when USB is needed.

Powerlets are definitely a cut above, but they were a bit pricey for me. Blue Sea also makes a locking 12 volt plug that's cheaper, but I didn't know about them until after I'd installed mine.

I'd like to know what makes it cost 200% more than the rest of'm. I mean I'd pay it but what makes it that much better?

It's 15 bucks. I have no idea what makes it "better", or if it even is better; I didn't build it. If you found one for $7.50 that has all the same features as this one, then I recommend you buy that one. If it doesn't work, you can try a different one. I can only recommend something that I've used, which were the Motorpower ones.

So you didn't build it then. Gotcha. Good to know. Due to my initial question, I took the posting of the link as an actual recommendation. Hence my second question. After a re read I see you didn't have any knowledge of that particular unit. Helpful none the less I suppose. Cheers.

I posted it because it's made by Motopower, the same company that made the ones that are on my bike right now. That's why I recommended it; because I have ones from the same manufacturer, and they work well.

You asked me what made it cost 200 percent more than all the other units that are out there, and what made it better than all the admittedly unnamed brands you'd already looked at; how would I or anyone else know that unless we worked for Motorpower, or had made a comprehensive study of every single USB outlet? You were looking for recommendations for power outlets, and you got some. If you don't like the recommendations or the price, then don't follow the recommendation, simple as that.

Cheers to you too.
