Question DL650 Throttle Cable Slack Adjustment




Well, the PULL-side throttle-cable-slack adjuster on the handgrip on my '08 DL650A is all the way out - there are no threads left - and it's still too loose. The PUSH side is all the way in - loosest possible position.

I am not familiar with these push-pull throttle cable adjusters, nor what they might have to do with any newfangled Throttle Position Sensor stuff required by Fuel Injection.

Before I pull off the air box so I can get to the other PULL adjuster down by the throttle body, is there something else I can do?

Perhaps there's some combo of the PUSH and PULL adjustments up by the twist-grip that is all I need to get the play out?

I have a similar problem and would like to know the answer. As well as, how does one replace the throttle cables on the Wee? I need to swap out my throttle grip for a replacement grip tamer that I bought to fix the sticky throttle I have but don't have a clue how to remove the cables. Help anyone?

Unless I'm reading the throttle slack problem wrong you need to just even them out, back one off and tighten one up so there are equal amounts of threads showing

it was new to me on my used 2007 - so I just evened them out sorta-kinda while removing the slack - the end result is fine

This is an old thread but I recently had a similar problem where the pull (open) cable was loose and out of adjustment and the push (close) cable was taught. I don't believe that evening them out is the solution as the close cable will only close until it hits the stops on the throttle body.

The service manual says you need to remove the air box to adjust the cables underneath. I found that if you remove the two bolts holding the radiator and loosen it from its mounts you can create enough room from the left side and front to get your hands and a 10 and 12 mm open end wrenches in there to make the adjustment. You may be able to do this without removing the fuel tank but I had mine off when I did it. You will need to remove the side plastics.

This will try you patience but I think it is much easier than removing the air box and all the plumbing and electrical that goes with that.

This might be an old thread, but it is a good one. When I bought my '06 2 years ago, I inspected it carefully to see what new parts were needed, and cables were on the list. If all you need do is adjust the push-pulls, and you have used all the adjustment range available at the throttle, you will have to adjust at the throttle bodies. If you can get to those adjusters without removing the tank and airbox, bless you. When I installed new cables, I used the adjusters at the throttle bodies to take up most of the slack and then used the adjusters at the throttle for fine tuning. This worked out well as I've only had to make tiny adjustments at the throttle and the rubber protectors completely cover the adjusters which keep them clean and free of corrosion. Also, put a small dab of anti-seize on the adjuster threads and your cable Gods will be pleased.
