Off'n one piece





I should probably write something up on this but I'm tired. I can say that if you do not have crash bars that get in the way of removing the side panels, this is way easier than removing the side panels. i will write something up with pics after i put it back together some time this week. so, subscribe and pay attention for updates.

Somtimes it sucks not being in the loop. HUH??[FONT="Comic Sans MS"][SIZE="2"][COLOR="Olive"][/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT]

Any chance you can put together the write up within the next week or so? having that come off in one piece is fantastic.

How can I remove the entire fairing in one piece? has a description without pics.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I've got so much wiring in the front end of the bike, that method just wouldn't work for me. And then I think back to the old Honda where everything was in the headlight shell.

I had a terrible time adding wiring to a CB500 getting all the extra wiring in the headlight shell. The last big wiring job on the Strom was to put the PC-8 in the fairing and add a large connector to allow taking the fairing off the frame. There is a bunch of extra stuff up there.

i would like to but i've a washing machine to put back together and a head gasket to replace and a brake job to do and and...
but it's pretty straight forward. undo the fasteners to the tank frame and radiator, unplug the wiring harness in the lower left fairing, undo the two bolts on the steering head, and pull the thing off. if you don't have crash bars it's simple because you have to spread the fairing to get those side "vents" around the radiator. crash bars makes this a bugger unless the tank is off because then you can go over the radiator since the tank isn't in the way. i ended up scuffing mine a little. next time i'll be putting some masking tape where it rubbed the bars. the tank isn't difficult to remove either if you do have crash bars. much easier than removing my ALTrider bars.
but i'll try to see if i can get pics up. i did promise in muy original post.

Shoot, I took off most of my fairing at one time simply by crashing. It's a lot more exciting that way but it's costing me hundreds to reassemble it.
Ill learn the right way eventually!
